  • I lay down with him in our bed, and nurse him to sleep.  When he's deeply asleep, I rooooooll off the bed.  I have a video monitor in our room so I can watch him, and he's not super mobile.  When he's more mobile, if it becomes a problem, we'll put the bed on the floor or start putting him to sleep on a futon mattress on the floor.

  • LO was the same around that age. Around 6.5 months, I implemented "pick up/put down" when putting her to bed for the night. I rocked and nursed her to sleep, and then put her in her crib.Of course, she'd wake up right away and protest. Every time she cried (not fussed, but actually cried), I would pick her up, soothe her, and then put her back down. And then repeat, repeat, repeat. The first night, it took 45 minutes or more, but eventually she settled in. The second night, it took 30 minutes, and the third night she stayed asleep when I put her down the first time. Now, getting her to sleep is no problem, and she'll stay asleep for a a few hours in her own crib. We usually bring her to bed with us when she wakes up again, but sometimes we can soothe her back to sleep for a couple more hours in her own crib.

i like that ill try that. cry it out kills me :(

  • He naps in our bed. I wait until he is asleep and then inch away. When he was first mobile, we switched him to naps/starting the night on a floor bed in his own room with the same strategy. Now that he knows how to get out of our bed safely, we use whichever location suits us based on whatever else is going on in the house.
  • We had the same issue. We super baby proofed his room and since we already had a very low to the ground futon in there we put him down on that. I usually nurse him and cuddle him until he's asleep and then lay him down and he will wake up and go right back down which he has NEVER done in his crib. The futon is low enough that he can get down and back up if he wants to and we have a gate across the door. You could try it by putting the crib mattress on the floor and see if it works.

i just nursed him down for a nap on our bed and then rolled away! It worked! I want to throw the stupid crib out the window.

  • We put DS down in the middle of our bed with a video monitor.

  • this worked last night! Thank you all for your help. I bought bed rails and put him down in the middle of our bed at 6:30 to nurse. he fell asleep i rolled out of the bed at 7 and he slept till 9:30 when he eats again and then we all went to bed and he slept until 6:30 this morning and nursed throughout the night. it was great. i dont know why i feel we HAD to have him in the crib... it was a rough few nights of CIO and stress and I hated it. I am so glad we found what works for all of us.
