I posted a week or two ago that I am going to Blis.s Spa this Saturday as part of a birthday present to my friend ( and total bonus to me)
I am definitely getting a manicure, pedicure and probably eyebrow wax.
I also want a body treatment but I am not sure what to choose.
Here is what I have narrowed it down to and the descriptions from the site:
Head over peels, scrub + rub 60 minutes @ $145:
This freshly squeezed treatment starts with an energizing blood orange+white pepper-scented body polish and a Vichy shower, then gives orange-?aid? to your most knotted spots with a 30-minute massage
Hot Salt Scrub 45 minutes @ $125
Drives away dry and scaly skin. It's a right-on rubdown with our secret self-heating, sinus-clearing, mind-melting, rosemary, and eucalyptus oil dissolving sea-salt scrub blend.
I'm torn because in general I don't like massages, I find they hurt... but that might be because the little cheapy nail salons I usually go to the ladies think pounding me in the back or rubbing me til I'm read equals a massage...I did have a nice massage once in a spa on a cruise that I took back in 2005...
Also the Vichy shower kind of scares me too I've never had that before... would I be naked for that ? And what if my hair gets wet? I was told your hair can't get wet but how is that possible? ( I have coarse hair that needs to be blown dry into submission, when it meets water without that it's bad news)
So based on the above I thought OK skip the massage part and save $20, plus when they apply the scrub it should still feel kind of like a massage... right?
What do you think and what would you do ?
Re: NSAIFR-Help me choose a spa treatment!
The winter does a number on my skin, so the salt scrub sounds like heaven to me right now.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

I'm so jealous of your spa day
.
Based on what you wrote, I think you'll like the Hot Salt Scrub better.
I did a Vichy shower once when I did a spa day as a pick me up with IVF#1. I was pretty much naked (but draped) and really wet (can't remember about my hair, but there was moisture, so getting it wet could be a possiblity). You'll likely be naked for the salt scrub too, but again draped (like a massage). I just remember I didn't have the most discrete technician and I'm not the most comfortable person with being naked for people.
Enjoy!
You are probably right. Plus these are people who went to school to learn the art of massage so it really shouldn't be all that bad, right? And if it is it's only 30 minutes, or I could just say STOP (right?)
Think I am going to book the scrub and rub! Woo!
Most spas I have gone to ask you the type of pressure you want used before begining and say that you can tell them if something is too hard or soft and they will adjust it for you.

I also have issues with massages being "painful" but I get them often and usually at good spas-- I'm just sensitive ...or a wimp. I make sure to tell them ahead of time that I like light pressure and mention it during the massage again if they are being too rough. My favorite massage is the hot stone as I find that is much more relaxing and gentle (and warm!!) than a traditional massage with lots of "hard rubbing"....um, that didn't sound right.
So, I say go for the one with the massage, seems like a much better deal-- though I have no idea what a vichy shower is.
Enjoy!
