So, we have done cio for bedtime which has worked great for us. I just started cio for naps in the crib about two weeks ago. Lo use to cry for about 15 minutes and then pass out. Now, however, she is either crying, talking to herself or just sitting there for an hour or sometimes more!! When do I call the nap a flop and just take her out of the crib? I feel like that is too long to just keep her there but at the same time she does eventually fall asleep. Anyone else have this problem or words of wisdom? TIA

This.
I was thinking the same thing, that maybe I put her down too early but she is showing me signs of being tired like rubbing her eyes, yawning ect. Sometimes during the hour it is a mix of playing and talking and then crying. So, is the consensus that an hour should be tops if she isnt crying? Also, lets say I take her out, when is the next nap, the usual time or sooner?
Thanks again!!
I agree with PPs. DD takes 3 naps a day. First one is almost always short but I do leave her 1 hour if she's just babbling/fussing. If she doesn't sleep at all I will try the nap again one hour later. If she sleeps some (even 20 min like today) then I call that a crap nap but then try to put her down a bit earlier for the next one -- sometimes it works and sometimes not.
It did take us over 2 weeks to sort out going to sleep on her own at nap time (compared to 4 nights for bedtime) and we've been working on this 3 nap schedule for another 3 weeks and most days we do OK but some days not and I'm trying REALLY hard not to let it stress me out because DD is for the most part a happy baby so what can I do...
I have found she can stay awake longer and that actually sometimes the short naps are under tired not over tired...Usually in the am I only get 2hours till the first nap but lately that can be closer to 2.5 which surprises me.
If you take her out after the hour, I would probably plan on waiting til the next nap. My dd is pretty reliant on a schedule.. If she doesn't go down on time, she gets a second wind and won't typically fall asleep soon after. But I would also still watch for cues; obviously, don't keep her up if she's a cranky mess

When our naps starting getting weird or our son wouldn't fall asleep, or the nap was short, we found out it was time to increase his awake time a bit so he was more tired.
Yes, you spend the first few months making sure they aren't overtired, but all of a sudden their awake times increase and they tell you by not wanting to go down as easy.
