Not that my SCH wasn't enough. Today in my follow u/s they said my placenta was low lying and that I need to stay on modified bed rest for 5 wks!
Anyone have any experience or insight (good and bad) on this.
On a good note, it looks like my SCH is pretty much gone and the bleeding has stopped!

Re: Low lying placenta
Awesome about your SCH! and yes, I had both. When I went in for bleeding I was told that same day about the SCH and partial placenta previa. Usually as your uterus grows your placenta will move up too... so it really isn't much cause for alarm! However I was also on modified bedrest....really to prevent bleeding again which can happen with a low lying placenta (not that the baby would be harmed in any way). So chances are way more than likely that you just have to wait for it to move up and outta there
i had a low lying placenta. i'm surprised that they put you on bedrest--with me they didn't do anything until i had a little bleeding at 22 weeks, and then they put me on pelvic rest for the rest of the pregnancy. i wasn't allowed to travel and i wasn't supposed to lift things or bend over or have sex, etc. but i was allowed to walk around as much as i wanted, as long as i walked slowly.
the big question with low-lying placentas (which is somewhat controversial among OBs) is whether a c-section is necessary. in my case they decided that if the placenta was within 1.5 cm of the cervix at the 36 week ultrasound, they would do a c-section. well, it was at 1.6 cm, so they insisted that a vaginal delivery was fine, and that was a disaster. i started bleeding after the placenta detached and lost a third of my blood supply before they could stop it--they almost had to do a hysterectomy. so i would insist on a c-section, which i'm sure that they will agree to since it sounds like they are on the cautious side anyway. if they say no to a c-section, i would switch OBs.
a low lying placenta is very upsetting and stressful, but if they are monitoring it and being cautious you will be fine. there is also a very good chance that it will move upward as the pregnancy goes on and it won't even be an issue by the time you deliver. sending hugs and T&Ps.
I was told that I had a low lying placenta at 12w5d but was told it was no concern at that point. It was still low lying at 19w1d. Again, I was told it was no concern but I put myself on pelvic rest. Long story short, it never moved. Not one stinking millimeter. I woke up to a large bleed at 33w4d and DD2 was born by emergent section one hour later. 95% of cases move by delivery.
Good luck!
ETA: I actually had partial placenta previa. It was 2mm from being complete.
I had a low lying placenta when I had my US right around where you are at. It had resolved itself by my 18 week visit. I didn't have to do any bedrest. I hope it's the case for you, too. (I didn't allow myself to Dr. Google it because I figured there was nothing I could really do and didn't want to freak out. Try not to worry!)
