Discharge and breast feeding question

I chose to bf dd and once she was transferring we started weighted feeds. On Monday dr gave go ahead for bottle feeds when I am not there. Now we are trying to get ng tube out. I HATE weighted feeds, I know dd takes more from me then the scale says, nurses agree. She is continuing to gain weight while bfing, from Sunday to Monay she gained 108 grams that's when we all agreed she is getting more from me then scale is saying. We are doing the must eat 8 total feeds and tube comes out right now. My question is did you just do bottles so you can be accurate with this or still try bfing? We have only done bottles since her 6 am feeding and she is 3 for 3. Monday and yesterday I was doing a mix, she was taking all her bottle feeds until she got her RSV shot yesterday afternoon, she was not a happy girl so we had to reset the 8 for 8. I know I have read a lot of moms do this to get them home and then work on breast feeding at home. She is doing great with bfing, so I don't want to throw her off but I aso think she is getting a little cheated by weighted feeds and the accuracy. Is that what other posts meant by giving bottles to get them home?

Re: Discharge and breast feeding question

  • My boys' last hurdle before coming home, and it was a big hurdle, was feeding.  I pumped the whole time they were in the NICU and it was my dream to breastfeed them.  Unfortunately, I wasn't able to.  Once the boys started taking bottles, we were told they would have to go to rehab for feeding therapy.  They just weren't getting the whole suck, swallow, breathe thing.  Also, Aiden has a cleft palate so he needed a special nipple in order to bottle feed.  So my answer is yes.  I attempted to breastfeed Ryan once, but it was an utter failure and I wasn't able to do it.  We just did bottle feedings because it was easy and I wanted them home.  It was 4 months in the hospital and I couldn't emotionally handle it anymore.  I sometimes regret not trying harder, but there's nothing I can do now.

Thank you for your advice, but I wanted to say never regret not trying harder!!! I am sure you tried your hardest and you had two babies to handle, it's hard with one!!! Your boys look so happy and heathly in your pictures so whatever you did worked!!!
