Success after IF

Accupuncture?

Hi!  Have any of you done accupuncture while TTC?  Our first 2 IUIs (TTC #2) have been BFN, and I'm currently in the 2WW for my 3rd cycle.  I'll probably go back to the RE if this one doesn't work, and was thinking about adding in Accupuncture to the regimen.

If you've done it, when in the cycle do you get it done?  How often? And do you think it's worth it?

TIA for your advice!

Re: Accupuncture?

  • Many people swear by accupuncture.  For me, it was NOT a good experience, but, I know many people for whom it was so I wouldn't discourage someone from wanting to try.

  • I've done accu both times ttc.  This time around I saw a new lady and felt she really helped me. She had me on supplements and a few herbs based on what she thought was wrong with me.

This time around I felt healthier, certain symptoms cleared up (like acne, lighter AF) When I first started going to her I was going twice a week for 6 weeks and then we'd reevaluate. This cycle (that worked) we toned it down to every other week.

If anything I liked the relaxation and centeredness it gave me.

  • I did acupuncture for about a year before IVF and while doing IVF. I still go occasionally now, for anxiety and headaches.

As a DOR dx, the RE gave me really bad odds and I think that acu made a big difference in how I stimmed. My recommendation is to go to someone who specializes in women's health. You should start going 3 months prior to your cycle, probably 1x a week, but check with your acupuncturist.

  • I did acupuncture in Dec and Jan in preparation for our 1st cycle in Jan.  We only had one shot for a full bio sibling for our son, so I was mainly looking for stress reduction.  I wanted to optimize our chances by being as relaxed and centered as I could be.  Figured it wouldn't help our cause if I was a big stress ball over the whole situation.  My acupuncturist knew what we were doing and did a bunch of 'nourishing' and 'enriching' treatments to encourage healthy blood flow, etc.  While it definitely helped with my stress level, it did not help us get pg that month.  I did get pg the next month, however, with twins.  While that was likely the result of the clomid and not the residual benefits of acupuncture (lol), I can't help but wonder if there was a connection.

Bottom line for me:  I really enjoyed the sessions i did (once a week for 8 weeks) and have gone back once more since.  I will definitely schedule a few more sessions in upcoming months.  I feel so much more relaxed when I do it.  For me, it was definitely worth it!

  • I never did accupuncture but thought about it...i think it's definately worth a shot.  I DID see a chiropractor.  Went 2-3 times a week for 8 weeks or so - got everything straightend out - interestingly where my spine was compacted , those nerves go to the reproductive organs.  I was pregnant with matthew (with the help of meds too) after I got done with the chriopractor treatment....

    who knows....it can't hurt though!

This. My first IVF was cancelled due to no response. I started accupuncture before next IVF. I now have two beautiful twin girls from that cycle and strongly believe accu helped.

  • I did acupuncture for IUI #2. It was the only thing I changed from the 1st IUI to the 2nd.

I got pregnant with IUI #2. I went right after the IUI and then once a week after that until I was 6 weeks pregnant.

Maybe it was just a coincidence, but I would highly recommend it.
