Breastfeeding

Not relaxing/bonding anymore

DD just turned 7 months, and for the past couple weeks when I'm nursing she seems SO tense and crazy! I know she's doing the "distracted" nursing thing which is fine and dandy, but what gives?

She yells/hums the whole entire time. And takes both feet and finds somewhere on me she can push off of and pushes/kicks me. And then yells and hums lol. She's not relaxed, I'm not relaxed, and I don't feel that bond like I used to.I don't want to quit, and planned on nursing for 1 year +.

Does it get better? Could there be a reason she seems to go crazy? She doesn't do it during night feedings and first morning feedings, just during the day.

Thanks for any insight!

Are you feeding on demand, or on a schedule? Around that age, my DS decided that he would no longer nurse on my schedule. I had to wait until he asked to nurse or else it would be a battle. I also found that a nursing necklace for me kept DS's attention and gave him something to fiddle with.

Mostly it comes in phases with DS, but I can't say that he's ever been a calm, bonding type nurser. I do hope things turn around for you soon!

  • My guys get like that sometimes.  I choose to interpret it to mean that they are REALLY excited about nursing and don't know how to contain themselves.

I agree, a necklace or something else for them to hold onto really helps.

  • I could have written this post!  DD does the leg thrusting/pushing off thing.  She also makes noise, pops on and off to look around, and grabs at my hair or shirt or necklace.  I have to get a nursing necklace very soon!  We're at the point that a few times a day we actually offer a bottle after a nursing session because she is clearly not eating during the day due to distraction, and then I go pump.  It stinks.

Aww that sucks, I would hate that :( It does feel like she's not getting enough because it's so distracting and she's so into beating me up rather than eating lol.

To PP, I feed on demand. DH said she hums a lot when he gives her a bottle when I'm at work, but I think she's a lot calmer.

I like the suggestion that maybe she is just so excited I'm home that she can't contain herself lol. Even if I know she's just ate before I get home, she'll attack me to nurse anyway.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll look into a nursing necklace!!
