Scrapbook Ideas?

DH and I will have to put together a scrapbook for potential birth mothers after our home study is finished. Our social worker said to include pictures of both of us, our dog, our home, and our families. Basically, the idea is to give an idea of what our everyday life is like. I'm not sure what else to include - any suggestions? I'm going to do a traditional scrapbook now that I have the time. How big should our scrapbook be? Any advice is greatly appreciated :)

Re: Scrapbook Ideas?

  • Pics of you and DH doing things together outside -raking leaves, working in the garden, biking, roller blading, etc.

Pics of you or DH doing a hobbie - scrapbooking, golfing, etc.

Pics of you with kids - maybe holding a niece or nephew or a friend's child.

A couple pics of you two on vacation

Maybe at your work - just depends...for example I'm an art teacher,so I used a pic of me teaching - I asked the students' parents for permission.

Hope that helps!  I would check with your agency about the size, but I would probably go with whatever the typical scrapbook size is - 20 pages I think?  I would include captions but break it up with pictures.  I remember from a workshop that I went to that pictures that are on an angle (instead of being positioned super straight) tend to catch your eye more.  Just a thought.  I know my tendency is to want everything to be super straight, but it might not be as eye-catching.

Use bright, clear pictures.  Toss any pics that are too dark.  Make sure you can see your eyes in the pictures.  Try to avoid pics with sunglasses and hats.

  • Our SW showed us about 30 samples of profiles that had been put together by families at our agency who had been matched. You can ask to see samples, or you can find a ton on places like Pinterest. Also find out how many copies you'll need.

Our agency limited ours to 2 pages at the time. On page 1 we did a picture of the 2 of us, a brief Dear Birthmother letter, and 2 columns that gave a snapshot of us (age, what we did for a living, favorite hobbies, etc.). On page 2 we had pictures of various family members, our cat, etc., with captions
