Re: S/O tummy time

  • DS only tolerates 5 minutes of tummy time.  He absolutely hates it.  He'll only push himself up at the beginning though.  Poor little guy has a big head.

I've found that propping him up with the nursing pillow helps him.  He's still working on pushing himself up, but he doesn't have to start with his face on the floor.

  • My DS hates it. He cries almost instantly. Some mornings he'll tolerate it but only for 5-15 mins.

Usually he gets between 10-20 mins a day. I'm trying to increase it but it's hard when he screams the whole time and then 5-10 mins after I pick him up.

My pedi said he should be doing 60 mins a day. I don't know how we are going to get there. I'm nervous that he won't be rolling over by 4 months and she'll say something about it.

  • I don't really keep track. I try to put him on his tummy at least a couple of times a day. Some days he throws a fit and I get maybe 5 minutes, other days he might do ok for 20. I know he's not getting 60 minutes a day though. Did your pedi tell you that LO should be rolling over by 4 months? I've read that some babies can roll over by that age but that it's also common for babies to not roll over until 5-6 months. DS is 3 1/2 months now and still not rolling over (he did once by accident but hasn't since). Now I'm paranoid.

  • I don't do official tummy time,  but my baby does nap on her stomach.  I didn't do tummy time with my first either because she had reflux and would spit up with any pressure on her stomach.  My first rolled over (back to front which is the way they measure by) at about 4.5 months and my second has come close a couple of times already.  I don't see the point in forcing tummy time and since my doctor said absolutely nothing about it at any appointment with either kid, I don't worry about it!

  • I don't do any scheduled tummy time and I sometimes worry I don't get enough tummy time in for her but she is already rolling from back to front (As of Tuesday) so I think she'll be getting plenty of tummy time on her own now.  Though she hates it, she'll sometimes lift her head up to try and see me but if she's not laying over the nursing pillow she's usually motor boating the floor.

  • Wow, 60 minutes a day?!? I thought we were doing well but I doubt we're even close to that...

We are in a set routine for playtime these days. After they eat I sit them in their bouncy chairs and we "talk" to each other for a while to give them time to do any little burps, little spitups, and pooping that they need to do. Once I change their diapers then we go to tummy time. I just watch each girl and keep going until they get frustrated. Sometimes they hang out looking around forever, sometimes they roll over right away and then just keep rolling over every time I set them down, and sometimes they only make it for a couple of minutes before their head drops and they just lay there drooling on their hands :) Once they start to get frustrated I put them on their backs to play with their toys.

My pedi hasn't said anything about it though.
