Showering with LO

If you shower with LO, how do you do it? Do you use a carrier? What kind? TIA!

Re: Showering with LO

  • I've done it.  No carrier.  I did take the Bumbo seat in there though.  I held her while I washed her back and legs, then set her in the Bumbo to get her front.  Then I set her (in the Bumbo) so the spray would run just over her back while I cleaned myself up.  She was okay with it, but prefers the bath.  I do too, just because she's so slippery when wet!!!

  • I havent taken a shower but I did take a bath with her once, I felt the just her in the bath was much easier! Maybe when she is older it will be easier.

  • Thanks! I've taken one bath with him and we did both really enjoy it...maybe we'll stick with that. I prefer showers myself, so I thought taking him in with me would be more efficient, rather than bathing with him then showering afterwards. But it sounds like most prefer the bath.

  • DH and I shower all the time with our DS. He doesn't mind a bit of water in his face (I think it's because we started showers early). When he was really little, I used to put the bouncy chair covered in towels next to the shower and set him down in there so I could get out and towel myself off. Now that he's older, I can sit him on the bottom of the tub if necessary and he's fine. It's definitely easier with someone to hand them off to, give you a hand but doable without. I don't use a carrier but I've seen mesh shower slings on babysteals for that purpose.

  • I prefer showering with DD to baths, but it could be because I have a shallow tub that cools off quickly and the edge is uncomfortable to lean over.

DD will sit in her Rock N Play on the other side of the curtain while I take care of myself, then I pull her in. I put a washcloth under her bum for traction, and don't let the water splash her in the face. I'll duck her "baptism style" backwards into the water spray to rinse off her hair.

She enjoys it more than her baths, and she beams at the shower head when I turn it off. Then her favorite part is getting bundled up in a towel and rubbed dry.

  • No carrier.  Just very carefully.  I only soap up one part of her at a time so she doesn't get very slippery.  She loves it!

  • I shower with DD.  We have a mesh shower sling that we've been using since she was about 6 months old - she's almost 15 months now.  Not sure how much longer she can use it, so I'm searching for something new.  As a PP mentioned, I got it off of babysteals and if I'm remembering correctly it was pretty inexpensive.  I've also used it once or twice last summer in the pool.
  • We almost always co-bathe. When he was a NB I used a water sling and wrap, but never loved them. I found it was much easier to put him in the baby bath loung-chair thing on the bottom of the tub.  That said, until DS was sitting, DH would just hold him for their showers.
  • When they were super tiny, they were just too slippery for me. I did it a few times in a solar veil sling, mainly after we'd been to the pool and that was ok for a quick rinse but not a real bath for either of us.

Once they could sit up on their own, I'd sit them in the corner of the stall and they would splash in the puddle on the floor.

Now they dance around me and play games and hog the water! I had to get a double showerhead just to keep the peace.
