Pregnant after 35

My First Pregnancy at 34 will be 35 in 4 months

Hi,

My name is Janelle and I am 9 weeks pregnant and terrified because I dont know what to expect or where to begin. I am truly blessed and very excited but cant seem to put anything in order or perspective at this moment. So if there is any advice that can be given I look forward to hearing from you.

  • Janelle - Welcome, and congrats! sounds like it would be a good idea to breathe for a minute. The first is the most terrifying and exciting pregnancy.... for exactly that reason, you don't know what to expect. Have you had your first prenatal visit yet?

  • Hi! Welcome and congrats. I just turned 35, and I'm due in ~6w. The women here are awesome. You have plenty of time to adjust to it. It's normal to be overwhelmed at first. Especially if that BFP came as a shock.

Sit back and relax and play it by ear. Check the boards, sign up for classes, watch the Business of Being Born. Talk to other women who have had babies or are First Time Moms. Have you picked an OB yet?

  • Thank you Adi!

Im in tears and thankful for the replies..Im so crazy AAAHHHH! LOL!

Yes I had my first prenatal visit last week and I thought I was gonna get more..My doctor took alot of blood and told me what to eat and what not too. Told me my due date. My fiance and I was just in shock and we really didnt have the right questions to ask. It was a bit overwhelming to us. So im gonna start a journal and try to think of some questions to ask.

  • Thank you so much! Im excited to be here..i dont feel so alone. Although my fiance is a big support, I sometimes feel like he doesnt understand what I am going through.
  • Hi! Thank you and congrats to you! Im definitely gonna sign up for classes..I do have an OB, but we were thinking of midwifery.

  • Congrats! I was scared also in the very beginning. I suggest getting a good pregnancy book such as "What to expect when you're expecting". Good luck!

  • Hey Janelle!  I just had my first baby on the day I turned 37...just wanted to say I was very much in your shoes at the outset of the pregnancy.  Please know that there is a reason pregnancy takes 40 weeks.  Just like the gradual changes your LO experiences in utero, you will find yourself making gradual changes for the good!  I was a total basket case - I really was - but by the time I was due I learned acceptance and how to be ok with not being in complete control of a situation.  I wish you all the best - and this board is a great place to be...these ladies are awesome and really helped me out when I needed it!

  • First let me say congrats and welcome.  Second, relax and enjoy your pregnancy.  I have absolutely loved being pregnant and wouldn't change anything!  Ask questions when you  need to, no question is too dumb to ask.  Best of luck in your pregnancy.  Hope to see ya around the bump!!!

  • I too am in my first pregnancy and it is scary and so exciting at the same time.  I hate not knowing what to expect.  Fortunately I have a lot of friends who have been through this many times so they have been a big help. Welcome to the group!

This is good planning! I always have questions I want to ask, but when I get to my OBs, I get preggo brain and forget. My Alien came as a total shock, too. Wasn't expecting or planning on another baby period. You adjust and make changes. When I was early along, I wasn't happy at being pregnant. I was terrified I wouldn't bond with him...ever. It slowly changed over the next 30weeks, and now I can't wait to meet him. I can't believe for a second I wasn't happy about it.

Not that you feel that way. It's just normal to feel overwhelmed and nervous. Iwas just showing you an extreme.

  • Congrats!

With my first pregnancy I pretty much walked around the first few weeks in a daze I was so surprised.

And now I pretty much walk around in daze wondering how in the world do I have an almost two year old and another baby on the way??  Smile

It is a fun time - enjoy it!
