Anyone know when its okay to take a warm bath after having a c-section? I'm 1 week pp and dying to take one, but dr. never mentioned anything about them.
The paperwork said 6 weeks but at my 1 week follow up my OB told me I could bathe or have sex as soon as the external incision looked closed and I felt like it.
Wow, 6 weeks!?!?! I had my 1 week follow up today and dr. didnt mention baths or sex and I was not even thinking about it either.. I was told in the hospital no sex for 6 weeks but no mention of no baths..
The main concern with baths is that you are virtually sitting in dirty water once you get in there and it can increase the risk of infection. Also, I'm sure when you first had your c-section, the doctor told you to dry your incision well after the shower....kinda defeats the purpose sitting in the bathtub. I'd say around 4 weeks is when all my stitches were gone and my incision was totally healed up?
Mine is no tampons or baths or swimming pools for 2 weeks. No sex for 6wks. That's pretty standard even for vaginal deliveries. The risk of infection is there not only for your incision but your cervix.
Thanks everyone. I did call last night and was told 6 weeks..
On a total different subject-- but has anyone else been really emotional since bringing baby home? Mine usually comes around 7-9 when its quiet around the house and Weston is sleeping.. SO is in the military and has to go away this weekend and my mom (my help this past week) leaves this weekend-- so think its a combo of that and the baby blues? I'm not depressed but I guess just get upset thinking about them both leaving-- hope it doesn't last long!

I was told 8 weeks! I was dying to take a bath too; I remember that well, even though everything else was a blur.
Congrats on your new family member!
Me too.
