Nursing Bra

I think nursing bras are completely ugly... Yes, I understand the purpose but they are complicated and to me I would still be fumbling. Sonoma Intimates has a fantastic back smoothing bra that clasps in the front. Has anyone just gotten a regular bra that snaps in the front for nursing? That way they can wear the bra and feel pretty at the same time? Just un hook the front and re hook when done...

Thoughts? Experiences? Is this silly of me for wanting to contain my girls with some sort of dignity?

Re: Nursing Bra

  • Actually, the one I have is really nice. I love it. It doesn't clasp in front, but I've always found I can't get enough support from front closing bras. I'm rather busty at 40E, and I tend to fall out of anything that's not full coverage. This one doesn't have  a liner, so I don't like that, but I'll be using pads ANYWAY so, no biggie.

Coming from a mom who breastfed for two years, take it from me, it's a LOT easier to use the ones that have the opening cup than it is to try to clasp your bra while holding a sleeping infant. You'll fumble more with that clasp than you will just rehooking the cup.

Going to get one of these, too:

  • The hard thing with front clasp bras when bfing is once they are unclasped both cups are loose so the side your not feeding from doesn't have the support it needs and the nursing pad doesn't stay put so you could leak or spray all over the place. As far as wanting to look feminine and pretty while nursing in the begging it is hard to make that happen with leaking and pads and creams all over the place, I'd say go for comfort and support at first and then once you comfortable with nursing look into some attractive bras.

  • I bought Lily Padz ($24.99) to use for nursing pads. You can re use the same ones just by washing with warm soapy water. They claim to stay on -- even without a bra. Claiming even that you can wear them at night without a bra (which would be wonderful). So if the work, unclasping shouldn't be bad.

I am going to just wait till baby comes and see what works.

I was just wondering if anyone has used a front clasp before?

  • I don't know if you're on zulilly.com but they have nursing bras from You! Lingerie and they are super sexy.

  • I would find that a clasp in the fron would be really awkward and a lot of work. Especially when out and about and you are nursing.  I do understand how you feel though. To be honest I never did find a bra I totally loved that looked nice. I found practical ones that never caused me breast issues.
  • The lily padz sound great but you are def going to want to wear a bra to bed, a sleep bra at least!  The support is so important!  Target actaully had some semi cute nursing bras the last time I was in there.  I tried using the front clasping ones the 1st time around and it was more of a pain than the nursing bra was.
  • So i am going to be a first time mom.. any ideas (links would be helpful) for a sleeping bra?  I'm guessing its different from a sports bra, which is what I have been having to wear lately, nothing with wires.
