I just learned about sterilized water injections as a pain managment technique during labour. Has anyone tried this? Did it help to distract you from your labour pains?
From what I've heard the injection in itself can be really painful, so I suppose that could be distracting!
Then again, I don't know anyone personally who has actually tried this for relief. I'm more inclined to use "interactive" relief options (breath work, counter-pressure massage, varied movements and positioning), so things would have to get really extreme for me to consider something like this.
I'm curious though, so hopefully someone with more info chimes in. I'll also try to remember to ask my midwife about it at my appointment next week.
I had them during my first labour and they were AWFUL!! The pain of the injection was excruciating!! Buuut- it did help to alleviate my back labor for about 2 hours, so they do work. I am pretty sure that I would never, ever agree to get them again though...

This is exactly me. I didn't want an epi so I did water injections. WORST PAIN EVER going in. My natural birth the second time was easier to handle then the injections. Yes they did relieve the pain, but they only work for about 2 hours, so then you have to have them done again after that. I would avoid them at all costs if I were you.
