Tummy Time

anyone else's baby just lay there? I know my DD can hold her head up well because she does so when she tummy times on our chests. She could probably roll over too except she would rather just lay and suck on her fingers. I know each kid develops on their own timeline so I shouldn't worry....but I feel like we're getting to crunch time to reach milestones

Re: Tummy Time

  • My dd just lays there and cries! She can lift her head but won't. I haven't even attempted in a week. She won't roll over either. She is content laying on her back.

  • Haha, my DD1 did the same thing until just a couple of weeks ago. DD2 was rolling over about a month ago while DD1 just lay there, contentedly sucking on her fists! :) But one day she just decided she was ready and rolled over 5 times in a row! Now she holds her head up really well and rolls over whenever she feels like it. Like you said- each in their own time. As long as you're giving her time on her tummy don't worry :)

  • He doesn't just lay there, he screams! He hates it, even though I know he can hold his head up (when he's on his tummy on my chest he's always lifting his head and looking around) When I put him on a blanket on the floor he almost instantly starts crying. :( I feel so bad leaving him there while he's crying, but I want him to "practice" so I sit there with him for a few minutes at a time. He's not even close to rolling.
  • I mounted a mirror down by the baseboard to give LO something to look at while he is on his tummy.  It is the only thing that keeps him from crying while on his tummy. he's so vain!

  • If I fold his arms under him, he stays up and bops his head around, but he doesn't push himself up. And after 30 seconds, he starts screaming.

  • Some days she'll stare at herself in the mirror for 5 minutes and other days she'll start crying as soon as I put her on the mat. I like her to practice, like a PP, but I can usually only handle the scream-crying for a few minute before I pick her up or roll her over :)

  • I don't know what MH does while I'm not there, but when I'm home, I'll put DS on his belly, his arms in front of him, and let him have at it.  Normally there is a pacifier in his mouth, a mirror to the side or front of him, and me laying on the ground with him, rubbing his back.  For the most part, it goes well.  Definitely not going to roll any time soon, but he certainly put on a good show for the doctor at his 2 month appointment, pushing up, squirming, wiggling his rear everywhere.
