Hello,
I asked about this on my Feb '12 baby board, and they suggested I visit this group to see what you all have to say.
EC has been recommended to me by an acquaintance, and I am interested in learning more about it. Has anyone used it? How has it worked for them? Any resources you can recommend?
Re: Elimination Communication
We have been PT ECing since DS was 2-3 months old. The best book I read was Diaper-Free Baby (an intriguing title but does not actually advocate being 100% diaper-free unless you so desire). Welcome to the board!
More Green For Less Green
I just recently started noticing my LO grunting a bit before a bowel movement AND I realized he was consistently regular about going first thing in the morning.
I've caught 3 BM's and I am HOOKED. It is SO easy. I realize not all babies are regular or signal, but if they are/do, wow!
The last two mornings, I just bring him in to his potty when we get up in the morning, and easy peasy, he poops in the potty! It's so exciting. Especially now that we're having to spray poopy cloth diapers.
Anyway, just wanted to say - yay EC! Hope you have some success with it. And looking forward to resource suggestions here too as I definitely want to try a little sooner when we have another!
Stories like yours make me want to give EC a shot! I don't want to spray poopy diapers!

"Well we aren't following it very closely for pees so she still wears diapers (we're using cloth so it really isn't costing anyway) but we put her on the potty every diaper change and after naps, before bath time, before swimming, she'll usually pee. It's pretty obvious when she's gonna poop lol grunting, faces, sometimes she'll crawl to me and fuss.
We started when she was about 2 weeks old. We were doing really well from probably 5ish months until 7/8ish months, there was quite a long time that we had no poopy diapers. She's gotten kinda sneaky though lately so we've missed some and she used to poop pretty much the same time every 2 days but since she's eatting a lot more solids it's a little more random lately.
I'm excited to see how early/easy she'll potty train. Cloth diapered babies often train earlier so I'm hoping between that and ECing she'll be trained pretty early. I think night time will be our only issue, she pees ALOT at night!
If anyone is interested in learning more I recommend the Diaper Free Baby book. If you have more kids it's definitly something worth looking into!"
We started at 7 weeks. My general attitude about it sounds a lot like Fred's. If we get it, we get, if we don't, we don't.
When we were traveling last week, LO had only 1 wet diaper, and that included overnight. I took him potty often since we were sight-seeing, there were lots of public restrooms.
Today he started going for DCP too (I just told them about it). There are still wet diapers in my life, and sometimes poopy ones, but my child is much happier after he relieves himself, and he is cleaner and has healthier skin.
Also, right now my 18 month old niece is trying to begin potty learning (she did not EC), and she is really struggling. She tells everyone about needing to go, but the few times she has actually pooped on the potty, she cried. It's like she was humiliated that she did that. My son will never have these issues.
Finally, I second PP about reading Diaper Free Baby.
