Jack Elliott L. was born at 7 am on April 8th (4/8/12!). Weighing 7 pounds, 15 ounces. He was 20 1/4 inches long.
Labor went well. I was induced due to pregnancy induced hypertension. It took 23 hours to get labor started (the last 6 of
those hours I had steady contractions). I had been 1 cm dilated but it took one round of a Cervidil insert and two rounds of gel to get me to 3 cm. After my water was broken at 3 cm, it
was 4 hours of waiting until I was ready to push. I pushed for 40 minutes
and we had our boy out.
Jack is in perfect health, but I had complications. I hemmoraged pretty
severely and there was talk of a blood transfusion, which I thankfully
didn't need. I was, however, confined to the bed from the time I gave
birth at 7 am Sunday until 2:30 Monday afternoon. It seems that
everything is healing properly now though and I'm stable so they sent us home at noon today--just in time for my birthday!
Jack is a great baby. While we have been told to expect the second
night to be a nightmare because baby needs time to adjust, we made it
though with only one short period of fussing--we have honestly been
having to wake him to feed. He is a very happy, alert baby. We are
very blessed to have him.
