C-sections

When will I be able to use this treadmill I just bought?

I'm chomping at the bit to get back into shape after my twins are born, but it's slowly setting in that it could be a while before I'm all healed up from my scheduled C-section.  Does anyone know how long before I can safely run...or even safely walk fast?  Don't want to set myself back or cause any damage by having my suture come open...

  • At least 6 weeks before you can even start exercising. It might be longer before you can safely run.

  • I started running (Couch to 5K program) when DS was 7 or 8 weeks old, and had no complications or problems related to my c/s.

  • I started taking slow walks around 2-3 weeks.  I had a 3 week check up with my OB and he said I could do what I wanted at that point, as long as I listened to my body.  I would've felt fine to run a month out, if I didn't despise running.

  • I started walking with DS and puppy around 4 weeks pp and was cleared for exercise at 6 weeks pp. I didn't start running regularly until about 10-12 weeks and even then I felt sore in my ab area after running and doing crunches.  It wasn't enough for me to stop what I was doing, but it did feel uncomfortable for a while.  I now run 2.5 miles 3-4x a week and do 300 crunches a day and don't feel any pain or discomfort from the c-section.

  • At my 2 week pp appointment I was given the ok to do light exercies and housework (no sweeping/mopping/weight lifting other than the baby...) so walking was ok - I noticed that I could walk but anything over like a half hour was uncomfortable for a while.
By 6 weeks I was able given the all clear to do whatever I wanted.

My wasnt an emergency or scheduled c/s. I just didnt go further with dilating other than 1cm after two inductions, my water breaking, and like 6 hours of "actual" labor. I healed up just fine and felt good and had no complications with my c/s.
