Anyone else have neurological issues with the pregnancy?

With my previous pregnancy, I had a couple of minor neurological episodes in my 39th-40th weeks and once during labor (numbness on one side, blinking strobe lights in my vision, tunnel vision, confusion).  I was referred to a neurologist but he couldn't do an MRI due to the pregnancy.  I am embarrassed to admit I did not go through with the post-pregnancy MRI because I am severely claustrophobic.  So, I never did get a diagnosis for those episodes.

It happened to me again last week (I'm 30 weeks now).  I'm scared that it's starting so early this time, and I have an appointment with the neurologist tomorrow to look into it.

Just wondering if anyone else has neuro issues with pregnancy and how they are managing it.  I'm curious what the doc will want to do to manage it.  Last time, I was so far along that it was just a "wait until delivery" scenario.

Re: Anyone else have neurological issues with the pregnancy?

  • I'm prone to moderate to severe migranes.  They get pretty bad to the point I can't remember people and names.  They only happen a few times a year and seem to rear their head in late pregnancy.  My OB said that I shouldn't worry about it and that they wouldn't give an MRI to investigate while I was still pregnant.  Needless to say, I did not follow up as it only happens a few times a year outside of pregnancy.  I just have to lay down in a dark room for a few hours (tricky with young kids) and it goes away.

Good luck, I know it stinks but do whatever you can to manage it during pregnancy.  I would just make sure to mention it to your OB/MW.
