I just found out that I failed my 1 hour GTT. My OB said because I failed by quite a bit and because I passed my 3 hour glucose in my last pregnancy by 1 point, I need to start following a diabetic diet. I am having a 3 hour GTT but the earliest I can schedule it is next Tuesday. Until I have my 3 hour my insurance won't cover a nutritionist. I was hoping you guys could help me with some breakfast ideas. I am really hungry when I wake up in the morning so I need more than a peice of bread and peanut butter. I don't really like eggs but other than that I am not picky. What do you eat for breakfast?
Re: GD - Breakfast idea's
Lately for me 1C cottage cheese and a slice of 15g bread has been working. This is my lazy breakfast.
Usually I do 2 eggs with turkey (cooked in the pan before the eggs so it gets a little crispy) with cheese and a slice of bread. I know you said you don't like eggs, but with the cheese and turkey, the eggs do get a little lost.
There are also some tofu scrambles with veggies that you can do that have worked for me, but I'm not a huge tofu fan to begin with so I gave that up pretty fast.
The main thing is to combine carbs with a protein. You need to make sure you are getting enough carbs (so 1 piece of bread with peanut butter wouldn't be enough anyway). I started off with 30 g. of carbs in the morning. My numbers have been good so I'm allowed to go up to 45 carbs for breakfast if I want.
This morning, I had oatmeal which was 27 carbs. Then you'd just have to add a protein (scrambled eggs, peanut butter, cheese, etc.). For awhile, I was making an egg sandwich with 2 pieces of low carb bread (18 carbs) with a slice of cheese and one egg. Then I'd add some fruit on the side. Some people can't do fruit in morning, though.

Here are a few that have worked for me. I'm only allowed 15g carbs in the morning.
Half an english muffin w/ peanut butter, bacon, scrambled egg, and a glass of milk. ( i even tried this one with the whole muffin and did fine)
Oatmeal, mixed fruit, glass of milk. (Can get this at Chick-fil-a if your needing something on the road)
For eating out: a McDonald's sausage egg and cheese McMuffin with only half the english muffin.
I made these over the weekend and they are super yummy!

(sorry, not clicky on a mac)
You could eat two of these with some peanut butter smeared on them for extra protein. Might be a nice change from plain toast or english muffins. They seriously tasted like dessert!
