I'm not a regular on this board, but I feel like I should start! I am newly preggo, and prior to becoming pregnant, an avid runner. I had run a marathon a week or so before conceiving. I was about 127 lbs before pregnancy, and had been running close to 35 miles per week. Since becoming pregnant, I have decreased my running a great deal, and have been sleeping more, as I am exhausted! Anyways, I am hovering right at 140 (I'm 5'6") and I am having a TOUGH time with this. I don't eat terribly, but I eat a lot, because I'm hungry. I don't think this is avoidable, but I'm looking for ways to cope with this!

Re: 10 PG - Weight Gain
I feel where you are coming from. I was in good shape right before I found out I was pregnant and about 125lbs. At my eight week appointment I had gained eight pounds and I ate no differently than before I was pregnant(no junk food). It was upsetting and I worked out all through my pregnancy and ended up gaining around 40lbs, 1lb per week. I am still working out and I am down to 125.
I know it's difficult because your use to controlling what is going on with your body and now that your pregnant it's a little out of control. Just keep doing what you are doing and you will be fine. Congrats!!!

From one avid runner to another, I understand how you feel. When I first began to gain weight I was so upset about it. But then I reminded myself that I am pregnant. I am supposed to gain weight! I've got the rest of my life after the baby is born to be fit and thin like I was prior to conceiving. I used to weigh myself at least once a week prior to getting pregnant and stopped immediately. My doctor weighs me, but I pay no attention to the scale. I splurge when I want to and have been able to continue running the entire time I have been pregnant.
I'd just try to get past the whole "OMG, I am gaining weight" and just enjoy your pregnancy.

I can totally relate to the weight gain. I haven't really changed the amount I eat, only the frequency, yet I've gained 25lbs. I keep an accurate food diary that allows me to see I'm eating and how my weight has changed. I'm hoping to keep with what I'm doing (walking and swimming mostly) and eating when hungry.
I've noticed that even with eating well and moderate exercise, some of us women tend to gain weight quicker or more than someone who isn't pregnant. I don't know the science behind this but I think our bodies are conserving the energy more aggressively because of the baby.
I am just lurker that wanted to say THANK YOU for your response. I was fairly content with my weight / fitness level before getting pregnant (5'7" 128lbs) and I have gained 25-30lbs so far. It makes me feel like I am doing something wrong. But, I eat no junk food, no fast food, lots of veggies and fruits and whole foods. I workout (cardio & weights & prenatal yoga) 5-6 days a week - it's like I don't kno what else I could be doing. But, just to know that others have had healthy babies and gotten back to their prepregnancy weight postpartum - is truly an inspiration! Thanks!
