Maternity bridesmaid dress

I will be 7 months pregnant for my sister's wedding. I finally gave up after months of telling her to pick out her bridesmaid dresses.  She told all of us today that we can pick any dress in a blush/light pink, any style, any length (which has the potential to be a cute theme, but a high probability of looking like a cluster-fk, but hey it's her wedding).

I have searched every maternity clothing site and can't find anything.  I found a couple Alfred Angelo, one Bill Levkoff, and a few Bari Jay.  So what's my problem?  I'm thrilled about having to spend $250 on a dress but I got over that, however the online order time for all of these dresses is 9-14 weeks :(  Her wedding is July 6th.  Dam is that cutting it close!  Advice?  Help???  I'm so desperate and appreciate any help.

Also ideas on what size to order?  I am 5'4" size 12-14 pre-preg.  At 16weeks I'm currently size spandex, ha.

Also I'll record my urge to give her the nastiest mean face and call her a "flipping" genius.  Grrrrrrrrr.

  • Have you gone up in band size at all for your bra? If so, go 1-2 sizes bigger & just have it taken in if needed. Maybe just go to a bridal shop & try on some to see, I know sizes run small when it comes to wedding stuff, plus designers are all different. I would recommend an empire waist dress that hits below your knees if you can't find maternity. Empire will be most forgiving & the length will come up from your belly pushing it out but it should still be long enough to be comfortable. GL!!!

Depending on how you're carrying (or if you're showing yet) should determine the type of dress. I was a MOH in a wedding at 22w pregnant but I was not showing at all. I didn't pop until 27w.

  • I feel your pain, my sister is getting married on July 20th and I will be 33 weeks. She picked a dress on Saturday! I really suggest going to a store because some of the brands use different sizing than normal clothing. For example all my clothes are sized 0 thru 4, when I went to get measured for the dress today they told me I need to order a 12 or 14! Turns out that those are equivalent to sizes 6 or 8 in regular clothes!

    Good Luck!

  • These suggestions are helping me A LOT!  Some of these I haven't seen before.... and I searched for probably over 10 hours.

  • Definitely not my favorite, but it is inexpensive and it should work (I am not sure if it is too pink):

If you are desperate, you can see if a local seamstress could make something.  Some of those Mom and Pop type shops are pretty cheap.  I have one outside the Philly area who made my wedding gown, rehearsal dinner dress and all my bridesmaid dresses for much cheaper then I would have been able to buy them.  Good luck!

OP, my favorite out of the ones here is the "another pretty one"...it's gorgeous & just what I was imagining for you, lol

  • Lulu Kate turns all of her dresses into maternity dresses.  They're pricey but good quality and very beautiful (I got one for a wedding in June).  They'll get your measurements now and make the dress bigger and then you can have it altered.

  • I will also be a bridesmaid in July and purchased the following dress:

I am normally a size 14 and ordered a 20.  I am sure it will need taken in, but I'd rather have it bigger than too small. I tried on a few dresses and this one seemed not tight around the bump like others.

  • I ordered an Allure Bridesmaid dress for a wedding I'll be in at 9 months, but I think that would be a longer wait than what you need.  I can offer no help but I ordered 3 sizes bigger than what I would normally wear, the dress is gathered right under the boobs.  Might have to order bigger if you're buying a more fitted dress.

Maybe check David's Bridal, somewhere you can buy the sample

    Good luck!

This is the dress I will be wearing for my my SIL's wedding where I am the MOH when I will be 8 months pregnant. Just to warn you about the Davids Bridal "Maternity Appropriate" dresses, this is the only one that is stretchy material. I tried on all of their maternity appropriate dresses, although they look really flowy there are a few layers to those other dresses and the most inner layer is tight against your belly and doesnt stretch so it would still need to be altered. The only other one that I would have considered was the other Jersey materal dress that they have listed for $79 but that's in store only and on clearance so they have just a couple dresses to buy off the rack.

    Good luck!

  • I wore this dress from David's Bridal in my cousin's wedding 2 weeks ago. It's not maternity, but it had plenty of room in it since it has an empire waist. I had it cut off at the knee. It was super cute and very comfortable. I measured a size 12 pre-pregnancy and they had more order a 16 to accomodate the belly. It was huge at the top, but I just had that taken in and it was fine. If you go into David's they will be able to give you advice on sizing.

  • OMG Be happy you are getting to pick out your dress!! I am in my brothers wedding and I will be over 7 months pregnant and she picked a tight satin dress!!! It is awful!

Anyways I agree with PP the ones at David's bridal seem to be your best bet.

  • I am a bridesmaid the 28th of this month which will put me at 27 weeks. Good times!! My dress came from David's bridal, the maternity freindly section. It was about $125 before I had to have some cut off the bottom. If you have a store close I suggest going there and trying on a few dresses. Even if its not maternity, if it has an empire waist with a flowing bottom it will work.
