Least useful wedding gift?

Everyone's got one right? Something that stays in the box for years since you've been married? Maybe you regifted it already?

Mine are: mango peeler.  WTF was I thinking when I registered for this little gem? I was cutting a mango last night and realized I have never once in 7 1/2 years used the mango peeler because I don't have the slightest idea how to use it. Whoops.

We also got barware that we have used once and a waffle iron that I've never used.

We regifted two of three fondue sets.

What does everyone else have taking up space in their house that you've never used?

  • Martini and Wine glasses, haha...

Oh! I have a painting of a horse in a field as well... It's really a beautiful picture, but NMS, and we don't have the room for it in our house. It's still in the box....

  • My domed cheese plate, ha!  I've never used it, but it's SO pretty!  Conversely, my Dyson is by far the most used gift.  I love that thing!

  • We received a Waterford Crystal Decanter and glass set. It lives at my parents house and has never been completely out of the box. It was a very generous gift, but something I doubt we will ever use. I should add that we did no register for it.

  • Wine glasses. They've been in a cabinet since we married nearly 7 years ago. Also, a fancy set of silverware. It's very nice, but way too ornate for us.

  • DH's crazy aunt gave us all her lefterover wedding favors, from her wedding 12 years prior. They were doily angels. Really?! Why do I want these.

  • I would have to say everything people bought that was not on our registry. We were moving into our new house and had nothing, so I registered for all kinds of small appliances like coffee maker, waffle make etc...We got like 4 separate boxes of wine glasses and beer mugs...what a waste for only 2 people!
  • Margarita glasses = totally useless and take up a ton of space.

  • We were very lucky, for the most part, and guests mainly stuck to our registry or gave us money!  We did receive this nice, very delicate, crystal bowl.  It's so thin that it's really not practical at all.  It's always in the way since I can't really store it with other bowls (odd shape and so fragile.. it doesn't stack well).  I'm always shuffling it around as to not break it when I'm doing something in the kitchen.  I hate to part with it, since it was a wedding gift, but I never use it and it just collects dust.  It's not really our style either (to be used as a fruit bowl, etc.)
  • DH's aunt and uncle gave us a purple... water feature? It was about the size of a pot you'd boil eggs in, but glass or ceramic. You'd pour water into the bottom, plug it in, and it'd vaporize the water into... steam? The edges of the bowl were wavy (think flower power here) and so the steam would pour off in weird little rivers. We never figured out what, exactly, it really was.

We gave it to Goodwill last weekend!

  • all of our crystal has been in boxes in the garage since we got married 5.5 years ago... I wish we could have it out and use it but there's absolutely no room!
  • Probably wine glasses.  We purposefully didn't register for them (we inherited a ton of really nice crystal from my H dad when he passed away) but a few guests felt the need to get us some anyway.  One set you could tell was regifted to us! lol Ah well, they're being donated when we clean the guest room in a few weeks.

  • A food processor- as in a GIANT one. I tried to return it but couldnt figure out where it was from. --However, it was from a little old lady client of mine and I appreciate it. She wanted to know what I wanted that wasnt on my list. I told her a FP- a little one. She went out and got probably the nicest biggest one they make.

We also got 4 pizza cutters.

Your mention of a little old lady, reminded me of something else....

A little old lady gave us a mish mash of things. One thing was a coupon accordion file, with coupons from the 70s/80s....

  • Fiber optic fake hot pink flowers in a black bowl vase.  I think it was just sitting around the lady's house and she thought, "Hmm.  The bride is a girl... girls like flowers... I'll give her this thing."

  • One of my friends gave me 5 napkin holders. First of all - 5? They're glass, so I've always wondered if one of them broke because that's just a bizarre number of something that is used for a nice dinner. Besides that, they're really ugly. Like I said, the holder part is glass and then there are medium-sized, ugly fake blue flowers on them that look really tacky, IMO.

  • We mostly got cash for which I am thankful. Least useful though? This absolutely gorgeous hand crocheted afghan. It's too nice to use and it's cream colored!
  • LaRue and SLHurst, you two are tied for the win! Those are awesome.

  • I've been married twice and the first time (14 years ago) I registered for china/crystal/silver. For some reason I thought I should do this since I grew up with my parents having this stuff (all in a beautiful china cabinet in the dining room) and they actually used it. I've used mine maybe a handful of times only b/c I felt guilty about it. It sits in the basement (we have a dining room but it's a playroom for DS and will probably never be a formal DR) and I'd love to sell it (it's got to be a few thousand $'s worth) but I've tried, there's no way I'm getting any decent amount of money for it. What a HUGE waste!

The 2nd time around I was very practical with my registry, especially since we pretty much already had everything. Although DH's Aunt/Uncle gave us a set of Christmas china. That went right back to the store!

  • Honestly--wheN we went through gifts we made a return pile and got rid of everything we didn't like and got cash instead. :) But right after we gotarried DH's grandma brought a set of China she collected for him for our see through china hutch. It has game birds on it..... Not exactly pretty.

  • I'd say our least useful gift was one of those ugly wall collage picture frames in a beat up box. DH's uncle gave it to us, who has no job or money. I still have no clue where he got it, maybe a garage sale? Needless to say, it won't be hanging on one of my walls!

  • We have managed to use most of our wedding gifts, but one thing we really do not use (and I don't get the concept of them really) is the wine glass rings. Have you ever seen these? They are these cheap key ring looking things that have labels on them like, "fabulous" or something, and they hook onto the bottom of your wine glass. Are they to tell whose glass is who? I mean one of my best friends in the world got them for us, but I don't...get...them...lol

Yup, you use them when you have a get together and lots of people are drinking from wine glasses so you don't grab someone else's glass.  We have them and use them all the time.

Yes! Very useful at parties when drunk people can't remember which glass of wine is their own.

  • Ugh, we got some pretty bad ones, but a white towel set, with crocheted crap on the bottom of them, is one of the worst.

BUT, one of my girlfriends, they got a gift for their wedding, with a card already in it, BUT, it was an old wedding card of the people who gave them the gift. So, in essence, these people re-gifted, which is ok, BUT, when you re-gift, make sure that the card YOU got, is taken out BEFORE you give it to someone else!!

How cute Stick out tongue I love little old ladies. I have a client that makes me pot holders and scrubbies all the time.

I just remembered we got a handful of dishtowels and the dishtowel thing that hooks on to the stove handle (?)- they were all sorts of old looking- country blue and mauve with geese and ducks on them. The thought was nice though.
