DD has had 6 ear infections (some of them double infections) in her 5.5 month life. She's pretty much been on antibiotics continually since she was 6 weeks old. The most recent one was diagnosed on Friday, and it came with an ENT referral for Thursday.
The pedi said he wouldn't be surprised if DD had tubes by the end of the month. Has anyone put ear tubes in their baby before 6 months old? How was it? Did they help? I'm open to any wisdom/opinions you ladies have.

Re: Anyone had to put ear tubes in before 6 months?
Both my girls had them at 7 months, it would have been earlier but the surgery schedule backed it up a bit. Best decision ever for both.
Good luck!
Patrick had them at 3 months old because he was failing his hearing tests (he failed 5-6 of them) and they wanted to put the tubes in to drain any possible fluid that was causing the hearing loss. He had his last breastfeed at 3am, we had to be at the hospital at 6am, surgery was around 7-8 am and they were in and out in about 15-20 minutes. Patrick was the smallest patient that this doctor had done (which I didn't know until afterwards) but he did really well. Because he was so small though, the anesthesiologist would not let me go into the OR when they sedated him. I was not happy about that (especially being a nurse) but all worked out well and I was able to breastfeed him right there in the recovery room. He immediately passed hearing tests after that surgery.
Good luck. I know that your case is not like mine at all, but I still thought I would share with you.

We just had Parker's done about 3 weeks ago. He had just turned 6 months.
He did great. There was absolutely nothing to it, and he's done great since then. I'd do it again in a heartbeat.
i WISH I got them in Grayson at that age. I kept thinking the ear infections would stop... and they didn't - finally at 18mo we realized he had zero words - and wasn't hearing us well.... so he got tubes --- hasn't had an EI since (knock on wood) and his speech has improved a ton (he goes to therapy for it).
it's the biggest regret i have as a parent- waiting so long - b/c it hurt his speech development... all b/c i was nervous about him having surgery.
Thanks for sharing this. It's definitely one of my fears that her speech will be affected if we don't get the situation addressed quickly. And I hope that you don't beat yourself up about it too much.... I'm sure you did what you thought was best at the time!
