Stay at Home Moms

help me with a gift.

I am putting together a little basket of things for a good friend that is having her first baby. She is 18 weeks along and finding out what she is having this week, so I wanted to give her some things that I found useful. Of course I am having a hard time remembering back to when I was pregnant/DS was first born.

Ideas? Nothing too major, I will save that for the shower. Favorite books? Necessities?

Re: help me with a gift.

  • I remember eating a lot of granola bars when DD was first born. Anything I could eat one-handed while feeding DD in the middle of the night was wonderful.

  • If this for after she has the baby or right now? I got my SIL a pregnancy skin care kit while she was pregnant and she loved it. As far as books go, I really enjoyed The Girlfriend's Guide to Pregnancy and Baby Bargains.
  • I am buying the nose frida for every future mommy I know. That thing is ah-mazing! If it's a really good friend, and she's planning on breast feeding, I'd set her up with the Lanisoh nipple cream.  I needed the Lanisoh in the hospital and used it all the time that first month. A cheapo zip up hoodie was good for feeding in the hospital and at home. Cheapo so that the baby can spit up all over it, and it won't matter. Plus, I just zipped it up when visitors came, and it hid the loose post preggy belly.

This. When I was preggo, my SIL sent me a basket of all the stuff she didn't realize she needed when she had her first DD...Lansinoh lanolin, nursing pads, BM storage bags, bags to steam bottle/pump parts, triple paste, California Baby diaper area wash, nail clippers with the magnifying glass. It was all very useful stuff (mostly for nursing) that I wouldn't have received as a gift at a shower.

Otherwise- plenty of burp cloths, disposable changing table covers (for being out in public), and an extra Boppy cover are nice to have.

    Gift card for pedi/manicure

    Summer Infant SwaddleMe blankets

Nice pair of pajamas with robe (bought a cute set at Motherhood)

  • I think something to pamper mom is always nice.  Especially in those last few weeks before the baby comes!  Perhaps a massage gift certificate or pedicure?

  • Nursing/maternity jammies or a cheap lightweight robe for the hospital.  A cute tank top since she'll be pregnant all summer.  Baby Bargains is great.  Comfy flip flops for swollen feet. Dvds of a favorite tv show to watch if she has insomnia.

  • Tums!  For when that 3rd trimester heartburn kicks in!

Hair ties, if she has long hair.  Pregnancy brain drove me crazy, I was forever putting mine down and couldn't find them.  And I was pregnant in the summer so my long hair made me SO HOT when it was down.

I also liked having a cheap pair of throwaway slippers/slipper socks that I used in the hospital but then threw out before I came home.  Love previous poster's idea of zip up sweatshirts, too, they were great for nursing.  I liked ones with plastic zippers (rather than metal).
