Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Gerber formula users come in!

I use Gerber Good Start Gentle and my Wal Mart has been "out" of the plastic container for about two weeks.  I bought some of the cylinder canisters and I have been back since to check for the plastic containers to be restocked.  Finally, I ask the associate and she said there had been a recall.  What?  I call Gerber, they say no and that maybe Wal Mart just isn't carrying that size anymore?  Huh?  The canister is more per ounce so I don't want to buy that size.  Another Wal Mart in the area has also stopped carrying that size and when they looked it up it was listed as a "Recall". I called Gerber a second time and they confirmed no recall.

Wal Mart is the cheapest I have found so I don't want to buy elsewhere.  I checked with the doctor and they OK'd the Gerber Good Start Gentle 2.  It's for 9-24 months.  DS is almost 8 months...so I feel sure it will be fine.

Anyone else having issues finding the formula or have you successfully switched to the GGSG 2?

Re: Gerber formula users come in!

  • I had issues about a month ago and posted about the recall. I gave my DD a bad batch and it caused horrible tummy troubles and spit up. It had a horrid odor. I returned it to the store and called Gerber. They assured me nothing was wrong with it, but would do testing and let me know. Well, they never let me know about it and I had to find out about the recall online through a PSA. I was very unhappy and have not bought 1 Gerber product since.

I use the same stuff. About a month ago there was a recall because of a reported bad odor, and babies that were fed that formula were spitting up more than normal. The recall only applied to canisters printed with a specific batch number and expiration date. I wonder if your walmart got a shipment of that particular batch and that's why they pulled it all off the shelves? It's weird that Gerber told you there was no recall though.

We buy ours at Walmart because it's all we have in our town. They sell the plastic canister for $23. We took a trip to a Target last weekend though and they had it for $19.99. So check Target if you can!

  • I do remember THAT recall, I had to send one back.  However, Wal Mart made it seem like another....which there was not.  I switched to the GGS2 and he has done fine today.  It's 20$, so cheaper than I was paying and I can get it even cheaper when I have the coupons.

I wish we had a target closer than 45 minutes!

  • Try Amazon.com...they're about the same price as walmart and they ship to you for free for the most part.  I have Prime membership (we order diapers, gripe water, basically anything baby through them) and it's free 2 day shipping.

I love amazon and have the prime membership...for some reason DH doesn't want me buying formula on there.  Something about it riding around in the truck (heat, cold, ect)...silly DH!
