Not STTN

R is almost 3.5 months old and not even close to sleeping through the night. Every night is different and we have had 2 nights that he slept 7 hrs straight. I thought I was putting him down to early (6-7) so I started putting him down at 8. Last night he was up every 1.5 hours, the first stretch he slept 3 hrs. I feed him every time, he did seem hungry, because I don't know how else to get him back to sleep. Sometimes it seems like breaking out of the swaddle wakes him but he only broke out once last night.

He's not going through a growth spurt because he just went through one and he's not eating that much during the day.

Any tips? Thought?

Re: Not STTN

  • My LO was waking herself up when she escaped from the swaddle. We got some bigger swaddles (Aden and Anais ones) that contain her better. They changed our world. Since then we have been getting usually a 6 hour stretch of sleep followed by two more three hour stretches. Not perfect, but compared to the up all night thing that we were doing before it is a world of difference.

ETA: Now when she wakes up it is for a legitimate reason, like a really wet diaper or she is hungry enough to drink 5 oz, etc.

  • DD started sleeping through the night (8-5) at 6 weeks old and started to regress at 10 weeks. Now she is consistently waking up once (usually between 1-2am). No idea why, but we're just rolling with it. I figure some is growth spurt related and some is just her schedule changing...

  • I would say add one more awake time and feeding. Put your LO to bed around 9 or 10. This may help, it helped with us.
