Success after IF

We have a bleeder- subchorionic hematoma

TMI-So during Easter dinner I started bleeding like crazy.  After making the 1 1/2 hr drive home to my hospital turns out I have a small (2.5 cm) subchorionic hematoma.  Bled heavy yesterday after my exam but as of this morning it has pretty much stopped.

Anyone have any experience with this?  I am kind of nervous but I promised the dr I wouldn't google it.

  • Good - stay away from Google, it is the devil!

I had a heavy bleed at 7 weeks caused by a SCH - blood with clots convinced me it was over. Turned out all was fine. Throughout the first tri I had similar bleeds and then brown spotting in between each bleeding episode until the SCH was no longer found on u/s at my 12 week u/s.

My doctor told me not to lift anything heavier than a gallon of milk but I had no other restrictions.

A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

  • I had one that bled around 10 weeks.  I bled heavily that first day and then spotted for about a week.  I hope it resolves itself quickly and you have no other episodes.

  • I had one from 7.5-9.5 weeks. Drove me nuts, but was obviously not a problem for the pregnancy. Sorry you're dealing with this!

  • aw crap :(  I'm sorry!  I know there are lots of SCH stories around here that were all fine!  ((((HUGS))))  I'll be thinking of you that this resolves quickly and you don't have anymore scary bleeding!
  • I had a huge one (around 6.9cm at 13 weeks).  Bled from 10 weeks through 18...then spotted until week 22.  Most resolve by 20 weeks.  Depending on the placement, the threat to the baby varies, but I was on bedrest for 3 weeks and limited activity until 24 weeks.

I had a few severe bleeding incidents (with light cramping) due to subchorionic hematomas with my first son (who is now 3).  They ended up clearing up on their own, but they were scary.  I even passed a fist sized clot that I was sure was the baby.  Hang in there!  My doctor put me on bed rest each time for a couple of weeks (until the bleeding had stopped for a few days), but I have heard that some doctors don't even do bed rest for them.
  • Yes, stay away from Google!  :)  Sorry to hear about the SCH but they are apparently common in IVF pgs.  I had a small one with my pg that caused only some light spotting around 7 weeks.  It went away on it's own I think by 12-13 weeks.

That's good that yours is small.  And yes, they can cause quite a bit of bleeding, which is scary.  I am sure yours will dissolve on its own in a few weeks.  Good luck!

  • I just recently found out that I have one as well, i made the mistake of getting on google and I am now very nervous about it.  I am glad to hear of so many that have gone on and been ok.  My work doesn't seem to really care that I cannot do allot right now and that is what scares me the most.  My bleeding started at 6 wks and stopped a week later and I am now spotting every so often but not much.
