Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Red Blotches all around neck

My baby is 3 months old, and I have noticed he is starting to get very light red blotches on his chest, and it's pretty bad under his chin and neck. I'm starting to guess he may be allergic to his formula (Similac Advance). Anyone else have this same problem with their little one? What was the issue?

I will be going to my son's 4 month check up in a few weeks, so will def. consult then.

Re: Red Blotches all around neck

  • Yes same happened here, many many many formulas later we are now on Similac Isomil and have been for a while. Our DD started displaying allergies at 7 weeks and we are now under the care of an allergist. All has turned out ok, your son may have a milk protein allergy as the majority of baby's do. I would see if you can get him in earlier because if it is an allergy it will only get worse. Just my recommendation, should your son require an antihistamine and your doctor suggests Benadryl ask for something else like children's Zyrtec. All they do is sleep with the Benadryl. Good luck!

  • It might also be eczema from the formula getting in his chin/neck when he drinks. I know it sounds gross, but a lot escapes the bottle and makes its way in there.

You might want to try spot treating with 1% cortisone cream and/or Aquaphor.

Definitely check with the pedi, too.
