parties for friends at d/c and gift for 2y/o girl?

DS is starting to get invited to his friend's b-day parties that he goes to daycare with, they are all about to turn 2.  I guess I was a little surprised when he came home with an invite a couple weeks ago because I didn't know they started inviting friends this early from school and mainly, because we don't really "know" the kids or their parents.  I drop off super early and while I know several of the kids names and see some parents, there isn't much communication and then DH picks up.  The parties he's been invited to are at fun locations and we've RSVP'ed because I think he would like it and it gives DH and I the opportunity to meet the other parents and get to know them.  Both these parties are for 2 y/o girls.  I'm assuming that even though we don't really know them we bring a gift since it didn't say "no gifts" on the invite.  Any ideas on gifts for a 2 y/o girl and is inviting friends from daycare around this age the norm now?  I guess I need to order more invites for DS's party next month to invite his friends!

  • We didn't even invite daycare friends to a 3rd bday.  I think we probably will this year at 4 though cause she has already asked...

As far as a gift... something crafty... Color Wonder, sidewalk chalk, finger paints, etc.  Maybe a book too.

  • I usually stock up on birthday party toys at Kohl's when I have a 30% off coupon and then just pull something out when we get a daycare invite. :) Things like play-dough, outside balls, sidewalk chalk, etc.

We went to E's best buddy's 3rd bday party a few weekends ago and took a Spiderman beach towel. We have another party this weekend and I got her some play-dough and a memory card game.

  • Our friend's invited daycare friends to their 2 year's old party this year.  I am only planning on inviting family friends with their kids this year to DS' party but I might have a playdate around his birthday time and make cupcakes for our normal playdate group of friends.

If we got invited to a playdate birthday party I would get a small toy/arts and craft thing to take.

  • Puzzles are always great too - you can't go wrong with a Melissa and Doug puzzle :)
  • ugh- that sucks.... the parties are fun for the kids- but it gets CRAZY after a while- we have a party every weekend, if not 2 of them, from like January until May. Thankfully Griffin's friends didn't start until their 3rd birthdays.... same with the twins- no parties in their room yet.

what NOT to buy a 2yo girl? i love shopping for girls- it's so easy for me since i never get to do it :)

  • That does seem early! We haven't gotten or given any DC invites yet. I recently bought a pink car that blows bubbles when you push it for DS's friend's 2nd b-day. Her mom said she really liked it.
