How does RSV start out?

I'm waiting until 9:00 when the doctor opens to call, but until then: how does RSV start out? My girls have had congestion/sneezing for a few days. This morning they both sounded wheezy as they breathed.

Re: How does RSV start out?

  • I think thats how it starts out, along with a hundred and one other viruses.  My boys both had the same symptoms last week - Connor had Bronchiolitis and was sent home on antibiotic and a Nebulizer.  Aidan got the same symptoms and it was just a cold, turned to Double Ear infection.  Definetely go to the DR., but its not necessarily RSV.  Are they getting the RSV shots?

  • No, they aren't getting the RSV shots. Even though they were under 4lbs and in the NICU, our insurance won't cover them because they were term babies.
  • For my boys RSV started with a non stop runny nose and then a cough

  • Ours started like a cold--lots of coughing.  I was actually surprised at the rsv diagnosis.  Luckily my babies caught it a little older (4 months) and they did really well--never needed breathing treatments.
  • Thanks girls. I have an appointment for them today at 4:20.
  • We are dealing with RSV right now, we are actually still in the hospital (since last Thursday).  With my little boy he was wheezing and had a wet cough and that is what brought us to the doctor on Thursday and he was given the test and it came up positive.  He also wasn't eating much and looked very miserable.  They of course wanted to test my little girl and it came up positive which surprised us because she was acting normal.

It has hit my little boy much harde, he has needed oxygen (which is why we are still here) and breathing treatments every 4 hours.  He was also given an IV since he wasn't eating in the beginning.

My little girl was discharged on Sunday and we are praying that our little boy will be discharged tonight.  He has been off the oxygen since early this morning and he is doing really well.

    Good luck!!!!
