Hey ladies,
I have a question about birth control. I started the mini pill about a week ago and I am six weeks post partum today. My doctor said to use back up birth control for two weeks until the hormones built up in my system. My son is EBF and I am wondering, how likely it is that I will get pregnant right now? I know it's always possible but if I hear too many "I got pregnant at seven weeks pp on the mini pill" stories, my back up will be abstinence ![]()
Re: Mini pill question
My dr told me to use extra protection the first 3-4 days on the mini-pill.
Lactational Ammenorhea Method (LAM) works for the first 6 months PP with EBF. Since you are also doing the mini-pill with EBF, you should be fine. I never tell my patients to use back up when starting the mini-pill & I haven't had anyone get knocked up yet!
What you need to think of is down the road- once you baby starts sleeping through the night, you get a period, you go back to work, or even pump for than BF the mini pill is at that point only 80% effective and you need to switch to another pill- like a normal combined OCP. Hope it helps.
