Dehydration?

Is anyone else constantly feeling like they're dehydrated regardless of how much they drink?

I drink SO much each day. Water, milk, and the occasional glass of iced tea or lemonade. I've constantly got a beverage with me. I go through two or three of those bigass refillable water bottles while I'm at work, and even more when I'm not...yet I still feel like I'm always parched. I wake up every 30 minutes at night and have a glass of water.

I spoke to my doctor about this on Friday, and she didn't seem concerned. She said that I just need to up my fluid intake (so clearly she wasn't listening to what I was saying) and that's all. I passed my 1-hour GTT several weeks ago, but like I said, the doctor doesn't seem concerned in the least, and I know it's common to feel thirsty, but I feel like it can't be normal to be this thirsty all the time.

Anyone else dealing with constant thirst?

Re: Dehydration?

  • I have been feeling this way! Not so much that it wakes me up at night but constantly thirsty and almost never satisfied but I have recently started buying the 20 calories gatorade's and it seems to really help quench my thirst

  • Yes, especially at night.  It's been driving me crazy because it makes me wake up to pee even more than usual.

  • Glad to know I'm not alone. I started with the low-calorie Gatorade this week, I figured it couldn't hurt. I'm still VERY thirsty, but I did notice that the time in between my "that was kind of satisfying" and "omg I'm dying of thirst" has stretched out a tiny bit longer than it had been.

I suck on ice all day... It seems to help because my mouth always feels moist.
  • Yes!!!! I went from drinking a cup of water at night to two or three. Everytime I get up to pee I have to drink more. So thirsty. Weird I dont remember this the first time.

  • Try sugar free gum--it seems to be helping me right about now.

  • Yup, always thirsty. Crushed ice seems to help me. I was just in the hospital a couple of weekends ago with a stomach virus that caused me to actually be dehydrated. Believe me, you would know if you were! It is the worst feeling, it was actually painful. It took 4 bags of IV fluid to rehydrate my body and I had the worst BH contractions because of the dehydration. So, as long as your body isn't reacting like that, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Just drink more, even if it feels like that is all you do anyway!

This. I also have a 64 oz subway cup I keep filled with icewater all the time. I love sucking on the ice. Not craving it yet, but I like the way the bubbles in the ice make the ice like...shatter.

  • I have felt like this off and on but I do drink a lot of fluids regardless

If you're only drinking 2-3 of the refillable water bottles in an 8 hour work day, you're not drinking enough water...so I agree with your doctor, up your fluid intake. (I drink 5-6 20 ounce bottles of water in a 8-9 hour work day, plus more in the AM before work and at night before bed).

Since you don't know how much water she drinks throughout the entire day (and night), how do you know it's not enough? She did say she drinks many glasses of water throughout the night, and you don't know how much she drinks before and after work. Plus, refillable bottles can be many different sizes. My bottles I freeze and drink from throughout the day are more than 20 oz. That can make a difference, too. I think you'd need more information before saying she's not drinking enough.
