That's a tough one to answer... it all depends on how hungry he is, how long between feeds, the speed of the nipples on the bottle.. allsorts of variables... he can chug through 4 oz's in the blink of an eye or 15 minutes between burping .. he is the same on the boob.. he can go for 5 minutes or almost constantly for hours.
We just started giving DS bottles and he really sucks them down fast. We have been giving him 3 oz at a time and we have to stop him after every ounce to burp. I've read that a bottle should take no less than 10 min. If we didn't stop him, he could take in 3 0z in less than 5 min though!
We are feeding breast milk through a bottle (dropins)- slow flow nipple, 2 oz. It takes about 30 min for a bottle which the doc said is a little long. At his suggestion we are switching to medium flow. We just had a hospital stay, and the hospital nipples with the same amount of milk took about 5 minutes but they were not labeled slow, medium or fast.
I can feed AJ a 2oz bottle probably within 7 mins or so ..I also break for burps..he's kinda gassy. If he does more like 4 oz with all the breaks and all I say like 20 mins give or take.

Usually 20-35 minutes for 3-4 oz of formula.
On a related note, how do you know when to switch to a faster nipple? We are on slow ones right now.
