Success after IF

High Chair Recommendation?

First, when did you start using a high chair?  We're going to start feeding DS solids in 2 weeks but he still doesn't sit up yet.  Did you wait until then?

What kind of high chair do you have and do you like it?

I'm so overwhelmed by the choices, and I'm not sure whether we should get a big padded one that looks like it would be great for an infant (https://www.diapers.com/p/fisher-price-rainforest-healthy-care-high-chair-99556) or a more basic, wooden one that will grow with the baby (https://www.diapers.com/p/oxo-sprouttm-chair-green-walnut-79860).  It seems like you can pay anything for a high chair.  I'm also not sure whether to get one that looks more like furniture or one that is obviuosly a kid feeding seat.  I do know we don't want a space saver one as we don't want to give up a seat.

Re: High Chair Recommendation?

  • I highly suggest going to the store and looking at them in person.  And then choose the one with the fewest nooks and crannies that are difficult to clean, because trust me when I tell you, your LO will get food everywhere!  I have this https://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=10803017&searchURL=false

And although it works fine, and my son is comfortable in it, what a pain to clean.  I have to use a stiff bristled brush to clean the seams.

Also as far as sitting up on their own, it's not 100% necessary, that's what the harness is for. he he sat up well on his own, i found i didn't need the harness anymore.  I just took it off actually as it was in the way all the time.

  • they don't need to sit up to be in a high chair.  Most of them you can incline slightly.  That is what we did at first when he wasn't sitting on his own.

I highly recommend the Fischer Price Space Saver Highchair.   https://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=11981516

Why take up extra space with a traditional highchair?  Plus I like that they are at the same level as you at the table.  Other highchairs are taller.  Love this highchair! :)

  • we just started using our FP Space Saver Highchairs.  We like them thus far.

  • We used the IKEA antilop highchair. Super cheap and no complaints. We used to pull it outside and just hose it down after super messy meals! :)

Back when we bought it, they sold a padded insert to help smaller babies sit up. We also bought the $5 tray that snaps on (or without the tray, you could just pull it up to your table)

After 20 months, 3 Clomid cycles and 4 IUI cycles, IVF #1 with ICSI = BFP!

  • You need to go and look at them in person.  Get something that is SUPER easy to clean...because you will be cleaning it, a LOT.

I hate our highchair...and I will probably move Parker to a booster seat super early, just to avoid having to clean the thing everyday.  DO NOT get this one:

It is awful to clean.  Awful, awful, awful.

  • We have the keekaroo and I love it. Simple, easy to clean, sort of grows with them (? I'm not sure I totally buy that, but that's another post).   We got the infant insert and the tray cover.  Love it all.

I have the Chicco Polly and really like it.  It's smallish and rolls nicely and folds up easily.  It also reclines.  I guess we aren't to the really messy stage yet b/c other than the tray I'm not cleaning it much.

Oh... it'll come.  it wasn't bad when my son was their age either.  But at 1 yo, he really gets into his food.
