Two Under 2

Baby 2 is a boy - What do I need?

Baby #1 is a girl who is 1 year. I have PnP, carseat, bouncy chair, misc toys....but other than boy specific clothes, what do I need specifically for a boy? All I can come up with is a PeePee TeePee! :) Any other ideas welcome!

  • If you're circ'ing him, you need rubbing alcohol. Other than that, there's not much of a difference in baby gear.

  • Ouch - I wouldn't use rubbing alcohol for a circumcision! A&D would work perfectly!!

I always went through a ton of those cloth diapers/washcloths cause he would pee all over us and himself every.single.time. his diaper came off. I also bought these little waterproof pads to put on top of his changing table so I didn't have to change the cover on the changing pad at every diaper change. I'm not sure how well the PeePee TeePee works cause I used those cloths (or another diaper if I didn't have a cloth).

    Congrats...so exciting!

  • Congrats!  Mine are girl then boy (and they are 16 months apart).

Aside from boy specific clothes and toys we just got a second crib, a second high chair, carseat, and extra camera for our monitor.  We really didn't need anything that was specifically for a baby boy.

As for a circ, rubbing alcohol is the last thing you would use.  Don't worry about that - if you decide to circ they will send you home from the hospital with what you need.  We didn't buy a peepee teepee or anything like that.  Actually, our DD made bigger messes than our DS :)

  • Uh, yeah, Vaseline is all you need for the circumcision (and you can take tubes home from the hospital) - rubbing alcohol = ouch!

I would not get a pee pee tee pee - use a little washcloth if you want for that.  DS did pee across the room a few times, but it was not a big deal.

Other than that, I really can't think of anything we have that is just for a boy (other than boy clothes, etc.).  Maybe trucks & trains & those kinds of toys down the road if you don't already have them.

We are having a little boy this time around.

DD was a projectile pooper the first month of her life, so I'm thinking she will win that battle as well. I'm just worried about catching urine in the face lol.

  • I agree about not wasting money on a peepee teepee.  We just used wash clothes.  He only did it for the first couple of months, btw. :)

  • I got a double stroller, crib, carseat, specific boy stuff (clothes, blankets, etc).  I FF my first (she was sick at birth) and BF my son (after he was born, I bought nursing stuff and new bottles (he liked the wide ones, she liked small).  We got new paci but DS1 never took them.  DS2 is very, very particular about what brand (and color) he uses...never used peepee teepee (though I had one).  My boys didn't squirt too much.  We used vasoline on the circ.

  • Congratulations :) Our first is a boy, not sure what this one will be yet :) We had a pee pee tee pee only because someone gave it to us as a gift, but in my opinion they didnt work very well, we used a washcloth or small burp cloth that worked much better until we got good at holding the diaper there for a minute :) I would say just boy specific clothes is all you should need, GL !!!

  • You will need A&D ointment for circumcision. Otherwise, there really isn't anything else boy geared that you will need. All the same thing.

  • haha - peepee teepees didn't work whatsoever for us!  All you might need is the gauze and ointment for the circ but otherwise everything's the same.

ITA with all of this. And my DD actually peed on us WAY more than our DS. He's gotten me maybe 1 time. It's actually not an issue at all for us.
  • We have a DS and are not finding out the sex of #2. Imagining it is a girl for a moment, there really is nothing really between the two babies that we are planning differently.  We prefer GN clothes and toys, so not those. We didn't circ, so nothing there. We CD and I know that girls tend to wet more in the back and boys in the front, so think we may have to think about prepping diapers differently, but that doesn't require any purchases. In terms of spraying pee, a cloth over DS's penis did the job just fine. I figure we may need some new things when baby is here based on baby's preference, but not anything sex-related.

Yikes!  That seems awful!  We were told petroleum jelly.
