Nope, just leave it be. It will heal on its own in 5-7 days. Keep an eye out for any discharge. You might see a tiny bit of blood and/or a little clear weepiness after the stump falls off - totally normal.
We did sponge baths (no immersion) until the cord stump was healed. Just gently wipe around it.
2 years TTC with 5 losses, 1 year recovering, 6 months applying for adoption approval, and almost a year waiting for a placement. Then, a miracle BFP at age 36!

That's what our hospital said, but I know others say differently.
ETA: It took us almost 2 weeks. He still had it when discharged at 9 days old.
Our doctor told us to use an alcohol swap to wipe it after every diaper change. With DD1 the doctor told us to just leave it alone and we never had any problems with it. it fell of within the first week.
Things have changed in the last few years but with DD we did rubbing alcohol. When it still hadn't fallen off after 2 weeks, the dr's office put something on it that made it basically burn off. It was kind of sick but it worked.

My LOs stump still hasn't fallen off!! They told us not to mess with it but at his 2 week checkup the pedi told us to start "messing with it" with a dry Q-Tip. It's disgusting and I feel like I'm hurting him when I'm messing around with it

Yea, DD's stunk so bad. It's rotting flesh! So gross! The doctor put some chemical on it that basically burned it off. It sounds worse than it actually was though. Her belly button healed and looks totally adorable and normal.
