Car seat installation

I'm a FTM & haven't been on here lately, so I apologize if this has been discussed. When are you installing/ getting the car seat base checked? I don't use my back seat much, but also don't really want to drive around with the thing for 2 months... What are your plans?

We plan on putting our bases in around the 35-36 wks mark.

Probably around 37 or so weeks. I want to take it to the local inspection station too to make sure that we're doing it right. Our MWs won't let anyone leave the BC until they see that the parents are pros at handling the car seat.

ETA: You can always install the base first (if yours comes with one), and just practice doing the seat. Once you have that down, you can probably just keep the base in the car and leave the seat at home until you get much closer to your EDD.

We will probably install it in the next few weeks (32-35) but will only leave the base in - not the entire car seat.

With DD I had it installed about 4 weeks before my due date. This time DH will put it in whenever we need it since we are pros now. I will say having a certified inspecter explain the process was so helpful the book was confusing to us having never done it.

We did ours yesterday, but that's only because DH is going to be gone a ton right up until my due date. We don't want to get caught with our pants down, so we went ahead and got it over with. No one sits back there anyways (except DD in her seat), so it's not like it's doing any harm.

With my first pregnancy we also installed it early because my shower was out of town. I didn't want to risk having the baby while away from home and not having our car seat with us.

Last time, we did ours based on the inspection schedule. Our firehouse only does them once a month.

This time we'll probably wait until we're headed to the hospital, since we know what we're doing. We'll also have family visiting, so we'll need that extra seat in the car until baby comes home.

DD1 came a month early and we didn't have our seat base installed until the day before we were discharged from the hospital. We were informed the dealership where we bought our car would be able to help us so DH took it there and they installed it. When DD1 transitioned car seats we took her new seat to the fire department and they installed it.

Since we have a new vehicle (not purchased from a dealer) we will probably go to the fire station so they can show us since I don't think one of our seats has the "latch" system. Probably at the end of May we will get that taken care of.

My shower is in a couple weeks (I will be 34 weeks pregnant) I am hoping we get the car seat at the shower...if not, we will make sure we purchase it within a week or two and have it installed in the car no later than 36 weeks. I feel like it doesn't hurt to have it there and it is one less thing to have to worry about. Also I think it will be kind of exciting to see it back there everyday, makes it more real

DH just installed ours this weekend. Luckily we did because it was a TIGHT fit!! The car seat is still in the house, I just like to have things prepared and DH is travelling quite a bit in the next few weeks, so I wanted something else I could mentally check off my list.

I plan to put it in by the end of the week. Right now it's sitting in the stroller taking up room in my son's closet. I need to get it out of there!

Make sure you look in your car's manual too. It will say the safest spot in your mode for the car seat to go.

Prob around 38 weeks. I have to move my older daughter in the third row when we install the infant car seat, so I dont want to do it too early. I figure if I have the baby early, my hubby can always install it himself, we'll have a couple days in the hospital to go get it from the house.
