Massage frustrations

Getting massages is not the same these days.  Maybe it's just me because I like deep tissue (HARD pressure) and everyone seems terrified to do more than gently rub.  I've had 3 full body massages recently, 2 were ok and one was pretty terrible.  Yesterday I paid to have my legs rubbed for 30 minutes and the guy refused to do more than gentle swedish even after I told him my legs hurt like hell and I would really love it if he really dug in.  And he told me his wife had a baby 3 weeks ago!  I wanted to yell at him why he didn't he remember how much discomfort she was in at the end.  Grrrr.  I keep trying to explain that they are not going to put me into labor unless I'm ready to go anyway, but I guess it's just a liability issue.

Re: Massage frustrations

  • Are you going to someone that is licensed in prenatal massage? I have been only going to therapists licensed in prenatal and they have no problems going deep. My therapist even advised it was ok because she is trained to know what is ok and what is not.

  • I know what you mean!  I had one this weekend and I wanted deep pressure but they wouldnt do it.  I got the gently massage, which still felt ok, just not worth the money because I still have knots in my neck and shoulders and my calves are still sore from my nightly muscle cramps!

  • That stinks! The last time I went for a massage was when I was almost 8 months preg, and it sucked because when I went on my back I couldn't breathe.  I had to take breaks to breathe lol...that is so not relaxing.  I did go to a prenatal massage place, but in this case, it was me that was the problem.

  • That does suck!  I am going on Thursday for a prenatal massage and I am hoping they know what they are doing.

  • I've had that same problem, I think it is a liability issue, no one wants to touch a pregger woman and they REALLY don't want to induce labor. I'm 36 weeks and plan on going at about 38 weeks and tell them to go for it! I just want my legs and back to stop hurting

  • I see that you are in Atlanta - have you tried the Pregnancy Massage Center?  I had one there a couple weeks ago and it was deep tissue for sure.

A friend of mine went for a massage a few weeks before her due date..  During the massage.. she went into labor and had to be rushed to a hospital where they delivered her withing 5 hours...
I guess it is POSSIBLE that they could put you into labor..  Go somewhere where they know what pressure points NOT to hit.
  • I'm going to places that offer prenatal, but I don't know if they are CERTIFIED in it... I had gift cards and groupons to use.  Maybe I'll try that Pregnancy Massage Center next.  Getting desperate for a good massage!

  • I went for a pre-natal massage last week trained in pre-natal supposed but i've tried a couple out and some were better then others. I have to say though I tried "cupping"  chinese therapy to relieve the pressure on my lower back and it helped quite a bit. Nothing helps me more than keep up with my chiro who is trained to work with babies and prego women. I used to be in tears form back pain until I saw my chiro.

BEST THING EVER! Don't know how i survived this far but now at 35 weeks i don't know if any methods can help this discomfort.
