To those who's DC would ONLY nap in swing...

Are they still napping only in the swing?  If not, how did you transition them to sleep elsewhere?

DD was not napping more than 10 minutes at a time anywhere else, and she was miserable all day long because she was so tired.  We finally gave in and do all her naps in the swing now.  She must be in this 4-month sleep regression because now she won't even nap in there for more than 1/2 hour most of the time, but it's better than 10 minutes.  She's still sleeping in our room but we're going to transition her to the crib this week & I'm worried about the naps.  She can only fit in the swing for so long - then what will we do?

  • When we're home, we let her have only one nap a day in the swing, usually in the am. The rest of the day, when her eyes get sleepy, we lay her in her crib. They are always cat naps, but they seem to be getting longer. I think she just needs to get used to it.

  • JD used to take all of his naps in the swing but then one day decided he didn't want to anymore. I would put him in there and he'd start fussing. Now he naps in his crib or in our bed and usually sleeps with us (which we're trying to eliminate).

I guess my answer is that he stopped napping in the swing on his own!

  • DD would only nap in the swing until about 3 months. It's still often a battle to get her to nap in the crib during the day and she is 4 months this week, but I keep trying and trying. If I can get one or two in the crib I will let her take the last one of the day in her swing. I started with just doing one in the crib and constantly giving her the paci and rubbing her belly and stroking her face until she fell asleep. It was a struggle at first and is progressively getting easier. She will often only nap for about 30 minutes though.... ughh.

  • DD takes her GOOD naps in her swing.  only cat naps elsewhere so i know where you're coming from.  i agree w/ a pp.  why don't you let your DD take one good nap in the swing per day and transition her to her crib for the rest of her naps.  eventually she'll learn.
