Bike carrier...

I am looking into getting a bicycle carrier for the kids to ride in.  I want the trailer kind that you pull behind your bike.  Anyone have one?  Do you feel like the kids are safe back there?

Reed is almost out of the weight limit for the bike seat that you attach to your bike for a toddler and he's not capable of riding his own bike for long distances.

  • LOVE our trailer! I take DD and my nephew at least once a week in thesummer. They are so easy and I really feel like they are safe. I read that they are safer than the seats that go directly on the bikebecause of the frame and the fact that they don't tip. Good luck! Wetook ours everywhere last summer and can't wait to break it out again.

  • We have one - instep brand maybe?  I don't think they are safe at all. They don't tip but they trail so far behind I think it's just  a matter of time until a car sees DH pass, doesnt see the trailer or flag, takes off, and creams the trailer. So, it's only used on trails. And even then I'm not a huge fan because it's so close  to the ground and kicks up so much dirt into DD's face.

  • Thanks ladies....I live in a big city.  I was thinking it might be good to use if we were going to the splash pad near our house.  It's too far for the kids to walk, so I usually take the double BOB but Reed is going to be four this summer and he doesn't really like to sit in the stroller.  I would stick to the side streets but I am still a bit nervous too.

  • We have a trailer and while we havent used it with DD yet, we used it last year with DS and it was great.  He loved it.  Ours has room for 2 kids but you can also use the straps for just one child in the middle (I imagine having one child on just one side would make it difficult to maneuver).  We have helmets for both kids while they're in there and we only use it on residential streets or on the boardwalk at the shore.
