Both dew claws... gone!

My dog has been playing outside today and acting a fool.  When we went inside he was chasing his ball and let out a yelp.  I checked his paws- one dew claw is gone and the other is dangling... caked in dirt.

We cleaned him up and he seems to be alright.  He did run a few laps around the house with his bloody paws before settling down and that was a giant mess.  Thank goodness we have hardwood, because I would be crying if he had done that on carpet.  There were splatters everywhere including the walls!  Who runs around when they're bleeding like that?

Poor baby is sleeping it off now...

    Oh no! I hope your little fur baby is ok. I cut my dog's nail too short the other day and felt like the worst person ever cause he was bleeding a little bit. But he didn't even care. He just ran all over the place getting blood everywhere.

    I guess puppy dogs have a different kind of pain threshold.

    Dew Claws are the worst they are so prone to getting torn off.  Just keep an eye on the one that dangling... my dog did the same thing and it got infected we had to take him to the vet for them to remove it.  

    Glad to hear that hes feeling okay :)

    awww poor pooch.  i hope he feels better soon! My sisters dog has both his dew claws and it makes me nervous that that will happen to him.  Jessies have been removed since birth so i dont have to worry about her.

    AH! This made me cringe. Your poor little puppy. I'm glad he wasn't too affected. Our pup had hers removed when she was super little. I think if she still had hers I would worry about this happening all the time. Hope he feels 100% when he wakes up.

    Our pitbull is forever getting hers tangled.  I don't think they have much feeling in them.  Glad you have hardwoods!

    Oh that's awful... Just make sure he doesn't lick them, because that's how my fur baby gets his infected all the time! It's a very normal occurrence around our home ;)

    awww poor puppy! keep peroxide & neosporin on it & it will be fine. my big hound was limping around & we figured out he had been bitten by a snake! now if he sees anything that resembels a snake he takes off trying to get away from it lol.
    TTC since 4/28/07
    Diagnosed w/ endometriosis 12/2010 Laproscopic surgery & 6 months of Lupron
    BFP 12/17/2011,EDD 8/23/12,ectopic discovered 12/29/11 at 6 weeks recieved methotrexate
    Dec '12 HSG & ultrasound showed abnormalities & more endo. Laproscopic surgery in January '13 showed significant damage & scar tissue from Endo. IVF is our best shot to concieve our rainbow.

    June '13 Decided to go the adoption route!
