I had my 30 week appointment yeterday and got some good news and some bad news.
Good news: I passed the 1 hour glucose teset with "flying colors" she didn't tell me my number but as long as she is happy with it, I don't need to know. I asked her how the baby was positioned and she pulled out her handheld u/s machine and even though it was only the back of his head that I got to see, I saw him none the less and he is head down! I know that can change still but at least for right now he is in the right spot. Also his heart sounded great.
Bad news: Blood work came back and I am anemic so she wrote me a script for a supplement (FYI $86 dollars later - pharmasist said there was no generic brand and the iron supplements weren't enough so had to do it) and what I am dwelling on is I gained 6 pounds in the last month (not so bad except I gained 6 pounds the month before that too) so in total I have gained 16 pounds, but 12 of those pounds were gained in the last 2 months. Now I have to keep a food journal (like I am in fat camp LOL) and bring in to my next appt. I never thought I would be getting lectured by my doc on my weight gain. I excercise 3-4 times a week and yes definitely indulge but I didn't think I ever let mysef get out of hand.
Okay that is all! Happy Friday everyone
Re: 30 week Dr. appt - mixed revews
Were you overweight prior to becoming pregnant? 16 pounds is not bad at all. I have gained 25 pounds and am 29 weeks along and my doctor is perfectly pleased as am I. Its odd to me that your Dr requested you keep a food journal when you say you do exercise a few times a week...You are still well within range to gain the recommended 25-35 pounds for the average female.
Anyway, congrats on the glucose results!
Sorry should have mentioned that, no not overweight. 5'6" and 137 pre preg weight. I know 16 pounds isn't a big deal at all and honestly I was thinking even if I kept up this trend of 12 mounds per month for the remaining 2 months I would still only be up 28 pounds total from ore oreg weight - not sure what the issue is. I mean I am not saying 6 pounds a month is great, but I haven't exploded and people still tell me I am on the smaller side, and all belly/baby.
Thanks
Umm...I'm not your doctor or anything, but I would think that 16 pounds would be a really good number for you right now- especially since you passed your glucose test and are staying active.
I'm up about 35 already but thankfully have started to plateau the past few weeks. I have gone back and forth about stressing over my weight (started my own food journal- that lasted for a millisecond) but in the end, I feel like as long as I'm eating mostly healthy and exercising, I'm not going to stress over it.
This is me. I was stressing at first but my doctor said my weight was good. So I work out 4 times a week and try to eat healthy with a little indulgency as well.
How is 6 lbs a month a really fast gain? That's about 1 or 2 pounds a week, which is what I've seen recommended across multiple sources. (Now, when I gained 8 pounds in two weeks and got a little side-eye from the doctor- I see how that's a too fast gain.)
I do understand we need to be watching our weight and doing what's best for baby and that we all need to listen to our doctors and do what's best for us, but I don't see how 6 lbs a month is anything to worry about if you weren't overweight to begin with.
