C-sections?!?!

I'm not judging anyone or saying I'm a doctor but it seems like a C-section happens to often and a first priority before anything else. I'm not trying to make anyones decision(c-section or not something to feel bad about...U can't always decide the birth plan....and I'm sure this will piss people off...but I just find a c-section to much of an easy resort(yes I understand it hurts...its surgery, come on its gonna hurt). And however, I do understand those individuals that needed a c-section no matter what. I was one of those babies, So I'm not trying to sound like I know what I'm talking about, but we have given birth to babies for centuries and it just seems now a days its an option no matter what...just my opinion. (not trying to make anyone mad...I don't have the experience in cs)

This post comes from friends that are getting induced before there due dates and are having c-sections after a few hours....ugh.

I'm sorry if I offend anyone. Thats not my plan. I didn't have a c-section....I wanted one but I'm glad my DR during labor said no. Random info.

I would try not to judge your friends.

I had an "elective" induction. It was medically necessary but unless you're on death's door your insurance company will label it elective. After laboring for 20 hours with complications I had a c-section. I almost died. I had a massive hemorrhage (that began during my vaginal birth but was detected during my c-section). My son almost died. He had a complete cord prolapse. This cut off his oxygen. When he was born his apgars were 4 and 6.

So, personally I'm all for medically necessary c-sections. If I ever have another baby (which is extremely unlikely) I'll be having another c-section. I might be able to try for a vaginal birth but after almost dying and having my baby die that's not a risk I'm comfortable taking. Most of my friends don't know how traumatic my birth experience was. It's not something you generally tell friends with babies. I don't want to scare them and it's hard for me to talk about. It's possible your friends are in a similar situation.

There are definitely more c-sections than necessary in the US. 1/3 pregnancies will end in one. A lot of them do result from induction. And, in the US, doctors are no longer on the babies' schedule, babies are on the doctors'. They are more c sections on Friday afternoons than any other day of the week, and less babies born on weekends or holidays.

However, there ARE needs for both.

There are are definitely more c-sections performed than are probably needed, BUT there will always be a need for c-sections. Some will have to be done after only a few hours of labor to save the mother and/or baby. Some are needed when all other options have failed.

I am not a fan of elected c-sections that are not medical necessity. I myself had a c-section after laboring drug free for 7 hours. DD was breech and I may have been able to have her vaginally without incident. I knew the odd were in my favor, but the hospital policy was to do a c-section (as was every other hospital in the area and we do not have birthing centers). I was not really "happy" about it, but I was at peace with it.

Do you know the whole story on your friends birth?

Yes exactly to what your saying. And I'm sure I don't know the whole story to their situation, which I guess I can't assume anything.

Oh I totally agree if its medically necessary. I'm glad you and your little one are okay.
