Thankfully DS hasn't had any, but by 9 months DD had suffered through 7, with one of those lasting through two different oral antibiotics and finally only subsiding with Rocephin shots. At 10 months she got tubes.

DS1 is 4 and has never had an ear infection. DS2 is 9 months old and on his 3rd. Some babies are more prone to them than others.

DS has had one. Thankfully his doctor caught it when it was just starting, so antibiotics took care of it quickly.

I voted 1 but it lasted 6 weeks in both ears. His drums were perforated three times. After a month we were referred to an ENT and got tubes two weeks later. They finally cultured the drainage right before he got tubes and we found out it was resistant to all penicillin based antibiotics. Once we got the right antibiotic, it cleared up. I felt so bad for my little man. The antibiotics (three rounds) made him a little better, but once were finished with them it would flare up again.

The doctor was surprised too. It helped, but the infection just never went away until we got a non-penicillin antibiotic. I can't remember which one though. I was starting to get concerned since he wasn't really responding to all the antibiotics but the doctor wasn't really, he said it happens sometimes, it's rare but it happens.
