I normally lurk on this board, but thought it would be the best place to ask my questions.
I really like the idea of baby wearing and have an Ergo w/ the infant insert that I've been using. (My friend also has some other carriers she's going to let me try out, but I'm not sure what type.)
My two questions are:
1. Whenever I wear him he falls asleep. Is that what normally happens? and/or when he gets older will he stay awake in whatever I'm carrying him in? Also, can he sleep for long periods in the ergo since it's more upright?
2. How will I know if he is too hot? His little face heats up where he's resting it against me, I've tried wearing a t-shirt so we're not skin to skin and that doesn't seem to make a difference. His little hairline sweats, but the rest of his body seems warm but not hot when I take him out.
Thanks for your help.
Re: baby wearing. . . sleeping and temperature?
1. Yes falling asleep is a big benefit of baby wearing, as he gets older he will stay awake longer but if he likes falling asleep in it he will probably always feel comfortable enough to fall asleep whenever he gets tired in it.
2. Worn babies tend to stay warmer so dressing him lighter (lighter than yourself) will help. The best example is if your wearing a t-shirt, jeans and tennis shoes, he could probably be in in a onesie with some socks. Otherwise my daughter has always been a sweaty girl, sometimes she just gets sweaty even when she is dressed light!
Little Rose is 2 1/2.
Re: #1...my LO used to fall asleep EVERY single time he went into the Ergo. Every time. Now, he has to be in it for much much longer to fall asleep. There was definitely a switch around 6 months or so.
But he took pretty much every single nap in the Moby or Ergo for the first 4 months of his life.
I usually just keep her in a onesie bc she gets a bit warm in there.
1. Yes. DS always falls asleep in our carrier unless he is very interested in his surroundings, and even then he succumbs to sleep at some point.
2. When DS gets too hot, he sweats and fusses a bit. What helps is making sure we're not skin to skin (i.e. my chest area is completely covered) and wearing a fitness top that wicks sweat (his and mine!) away.
Once DD got older and started fighting sleep wearing her down was a total lifesaver. If you have a LO that loves sleeping in a carrier you will be grateful farther down the road.
