Do you ever look around and think, "Scheeze, seems like everyone has x amount of kids these days?"
In your social circle, or at the grocery or the mall. . . what do you feel is the average number of children per family?
(Not based on statistics, obviously, but your perception of your community.)
I personally am noticing more and more families with a greater number of kids (3 instead of 2). . . but I wonder if, perhaps, that's because I'm looking for it ![]()
[Poll]
Re: Clicky re number of kids (everyone else, not you)
I answered 2 for all our close friends. One family has 3. But in other situations like at church I think 3 is popular too.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

Almost everyone I know in my social circle and my or DH's family has 2. One friend has three and there were many people who seemed surprised that they would have a third. (I also often tease my mom that I'm an accident because I'm a 3rd child and I tell her I don't know any other (American) Jewish families with more than 2 kids).
At work, I'd say at least 75% of people have 2 kids, and the rest have 3 (or 1 but mostly just babies then and I assume they'll likely have a second).
I don't know anyone personally with more than 3 kids (not counting families I knew growing up, etc.).
My friend and I just had this conversation. She lives in a very wealthy town in NJ. She said that there are so many families with 4 kids. It has become a status thing- basically saying "see- I have money becuase I can afford 4 kids". It's crazy! But then I noticed in my brother's town (also very weatlthy), so many people have 3 kids. I guess they're all Wall Street people because that will not be happening for me!
My friends in NYC all have 1 or 2 - it's not even about money. It's about space. 2 kids can share a room. 3 can't! Space is hard to come by in NYC.
IUI- BFN IVF #1 -BFP! Allie is our 2nd IVF baby. Born at 36 1/2 weeks after pre-e again
I could have asked the same question in the same way...but I don't have an answer. My head is saying it's probably 2, but I notice so many with 3! On my block everyone has 2, but it seems that everywhere else 3 is more the norm, at least it's felt that way in the last year. But it may be just my warped perception -- I truly don't know.
I didn't answer the poll because I stared at the answers and couldn't choose, but I would have answered if there were an answer for "It's probably 2, but it sure feels like 3." Ha!

I am not sure how to answer. Here in the city, it is 1-2. But all the families we know in the suburbs are 3. But 3 kids in the city is really rare.
Among our close friends, we are pretty much the only ones with kids, period. Some are pregnant now.
Because we're fancy like that.
I'd say it's 50/50 with 1 or 2.
That is SO funny to me because I say this all the time!!
Almost everyone I know has at least 2 kids. So many have 3 and I know lots of families with 4 or more. Because of that I think it cancels out those with only one. Plus most of the families with only one child now plan to have more.
I'm hoping to be one team 3 myself
I voted for 3. It seems like a lot of people I know are having a 3rd or want to/ currently trying to have a 3rd.
