when your babys father leaves you before the baby is even born, about how long does it take for custody matters to get settled in court? and do you have to let him see the baby before its all set on paper?

    ^^This. As far as the wait...Depends on the state, county and court load. Here, it's 18-24 months. If you're in Medicaid, the wait drops to 12-18 months.  I would expect 6-12 months minimum.

    You don't have to let him see the baby until the court has established visitation and custody. You don't even have to take his calls.

     

    As far as the wait time, it can vary. Keep in mind if hes not cooperating with anything so far there is a good chance he won't cooperate when the baby comes. My best advice to you is to get a lawyer, if being able to afford one is an issue there are ones available for reduced rates or sometimes even pro bono. I don't know what I would do without mine. I have a fairly decent knowledge of the laws and could handle it on my own if I needed but things have gone so much smoother (or as smooth as possible) with his help. I noticed you have a little time before your baby comes, I would get a start on everything now. That way at least the process is started. My lawyer estimates that IF the father of my baby cooperated it can take up to 6 months, thats if!!! Stay on top if him and make sure you don't fall for anything that might end up hurting you and baby. It sounds harsh, but he might not deserve your "understanding" about things right now.
