VBAC

Were you induced?

I've been having regular contractions for 3 days - but nothing that increases in intensity/is painful. My midwife won't check me until next week. 36 weeks I was a measly 1cm. They told me that if I keep contracting and can get to 2/3cm and get some effacement they will try and help me along with some pitocin after 39 weeks. The exhausted half of me, that has 2 boys to chase around says, OH YES. The logical part of me says to wait. I went into labor on my own with my DS2 (my vbac1) at 39 weeks exactly. So I don't want to go thru the whole induction thing if I may go on my own.

Re: Were you induced?

  • I was induced with pit for my VBAC but was not already in labor really.  I had just reached the end of my timeline with the hospital.  I would have preferred to go on my own.  Pit contractions are no fun.

  • I was induced with my first. I have until 4/16 to go on my own before I face induction at 42w1d. If I get induced, I probably won't even try to go natural. There is no point. Pit contractions are unbearable. I'm not afraid of natural contractions, but what I experienced the first time around ... no one could say not to the drugs offered and it was pure hell going through it for as long as I lasted without drugs. Double peaking, basically being in transition for 14  hrs with a doctor trying to pit to distress to get the csection he wanted.. ya... living hell.

Labor doesn't scare me at all. Being induced does.

  • My doc told me that if I try for a VBAC for my second then they wont induce me - I have to go on my own or get another c/s.

  • I've had the pit contractions. With my DS2 I stalled at 5cm and my midwife did pit slowly. They did suck. And I had an epi! As for PP, they won't induce with anything that ripens your cervix (cervadil, etc), but will with pit - pending your cervix is already ripe. So if all these contractions are pointless, and not dialating me or anything, i'll probably end up with another c/s... unless i go on my own.

  • Personally, I'd rather wait as long as possible.  If you went into labor at 39 weeks with #2, there's pretty good shot at going early for #3.  Like PPs said, I would so much rather birth without pitocin.  Especially since they probably wouldn't give you a whole lot being a VBAC. I would hate to start something that my body couldn't finish.  I think I would blame myself forever, if it ended in another c-section.
