They provide you with a pretty good list...stick to basics for you (bed and bath stuff) and comfy PP clothes, plus stuff you think you mihgt need to feel comfortable during L & D. Most hospitals now provide everything for baby, so you should only need an outfit to bring LO home in (unless you have a long drive then you may want to pack some extra dipers.
I over packed for DS. I don't plan on doing that again.I didn't use half the stuff I brought with me.
I'll just bring comfy clothes and typical toiletries for me. Also a good pair of slippers and/or socks to walk around in. Nothing too special.
For DD, I'll bring 1 or 2 outfits and her baby book so they can stamp her hand and foot prints into it after birth. They provide everything else.
Also, our camera, phones etc. One thing I will be bringing is 1 or 2 pillows from home. They ran out of pillows last time I was there for DS(he was born at a really busy time). I was so glad to have 1 with me from home.
DH did go home when DS was born 1x and I know he will be going home this time too. So anything I might need for forgot, he can bring back with him.

I overpacked for DD and will probably do the same for #2. But, I was there for a full week, so I needed a lot of things. I'd rather have too much - even if I leave a bag of extra things in the car.
OP - You can google hospital list for birth and you'll get lots of suggestions.

It can depend on where you are delivering. For us they gave me all of 3 pads, 6 diapers and nothing else. We quite literally had to pack EVERYTHING ourselves. Diapers, clothes, outfits, wipes, Vaseline...all that fun stuff.
"Dr Google" can be helpful with lists of this type, though. But I do recommend finding out what the hospital will provide you!

I agree with the bolded part. My hospital has a "Giving Birth with the N Health System" Package that you can get from your OB or the hospital itself. It has a list of things that you absolutely need to bring with you, and it includes a pack of newborn diapers and wipes. Then a list of recommended items for mom, baby, and birth partner. My hospital does not provide you with anything for the baby.
Re: Hospital Bag
Have you taken a L & D class?

I know a lot of people on here have recommended bringing a boppy or something similar if you plan on nursing.
Ive also heard Chapstick and ponytail holders are key, as well as chargers for your cell phone, camera, etc.
